Re: @ You who told me to play SM to improve...
you probably should have played ffr every once and a while during your sm extravaganza. I had a little bit of trouble when I first started playing a ton of sm but if you play them both every now and then you'll start to feel the changes that you need to make in order to get the best PA/MA on each game.

Re: @ You who told me to play SM to improve...
Wtf is 6 ke... OH YOU MEAN SOLO!
Never heard someone call it 6 keys before, i was thinking about a different game for a second. Solo rulz. The only way to improve is like Tera said, the files you play. Play tons of harder songs you can't FC easily, at least 30+ misses on it or more and keep working at it. Not saying the harder the better here but... Limit yourself to playing harder songs than you normally do and keep going up. That's how you originally got to be as good as you are now right? Playing and trying harder songs each day on FFR, not the same songs over and over. So follow the same pattern. pce

Re: @ You who told me to play SM to improve...
ppl call it 6key since keybeat. solo is the "stepmania/ddr" way of calling it apparently.
stepmania also delivers more of a challenge with an added timing option and pretty much every file that's better than the dumps in ffr. |

I quit playing FFR, but started both stepping and playing SM, now I am fairly decent at both but I suck at FFR.

Re: @ You who told me to play SM to improve...
I actually tried a variety of files and I'm suddenly as fast as I am now haha - my best advice is to not start off trying to do easy to challenging songs (speaking in ffr difficulty terms). Trying to do, let's say, trip to the moon until you can AAA it does not affect how well you perform on harder songs. Oh sure you can get accuracy on an easy song but what will happen when you go up to the master songs? This was a perfect example of when I had rank 1 on death piano back in the day - I wasn't exactly great at scoring on the other files but death piano is a song about speed, not AAA'ing patterns for the entire song so I could afford to get goods at certain areas. On other files (FMO's are a great example) your rank gets downgraded to 30 or higher if you get a good.
I think it may also have to do with a bad keyboard and sliding. Going all MA won't exactly prepare you for harder songs. Last edited by DossarLX ODI; 11-5-2009 at 08:36 AM.. |

Re: @ You who told me to play SM to improve...
Nice joke with my username.
Edit: Also, as I was explaining to Bluearrow last night, my username DOES NOT sound like "fail", it's pronounced with an acute accent on the E, like "phaÉL", because it's not an "english" name, where the E sounds like "ee". Last edited by PhaeL v2; 11-5-2009 at 12:51 PM.. |

It's normal. With some time, your SM skills are going to transfer to your FFR skills. Maybe. That's what happened to me I think and look : I now have 5 FGO AAA !!!

Re: @ You who told me to play SM to improve...
You're not good enough yet.
SM is proper and accurate. You got used to that. FFR is improper, and off-sync in most cases. If you try to use your "skill" to hit on-sync, it's just going to kill your score. If you improve further, you'll learn to sightread, and adapt to each individual song. You can complain all you want about it being off-sync, but fact is you're relying on your ears too much. FFR is imperfect, so adapt to it, or go play something that's more perfect. I play SM and ITG for the majority of my playing, and have gotten to the point where I get up to 99.51% on pad (9ft song), and 99.96% on keyboard (1 excellent, 11ft song). Also, using sightreading, I got 90% Greats on a 12ft song. I'm PURPOSELY hitting offbeat, to get a great, and see how many I can get. That's something that relying on your ears won't give you. Go play SM.
