Raising the driving age to 21 is sometimes impractical when one is often expected to strike out on their own at age 18, especially for cities with poor public transport.

They don't want to lower it to increase profits, they want to lower to decrease drinking related accidents. Less of a thrill or pressure to drink=less accidents. That's pretty much the only reason people drink underage for the thrill of it "being illegal". If it was legal at a lower age would there be more abuse? Also not to mention the whole "yeah yeah legal adult at 18 etc. but can't drink". Gambling is 21 as well but if you're near Indian reservation its 18 so that's a different story.

and anyone here who's like "omg ya lower it i can drink and look cool in 2 years ^_^ <3 im 16 btw" should shut up and leave because you don't look cool and you're dumb k

EDIT: Personally I find the whole 21 to drink thing pretty age demeaning and hypocritial.

haha it already is 18 in Manitoba.

But on topic, I think the drinking age should be lowered to 16. At 16 I believe you have the maturity and intellegance to make appropriate decisions. Age of Sexual Consent is 16 in Canada, and I think if you are mature and responsible enough for that you should be responsible and mature enough to consume alcohol.

Uhh, I'm not of age, and I drink because I have an appreciation and love of alcohol the same way "responsible adults" do.

On a side note, my family owns a plot of fertile land in Bulgaria, and perhaps someday I'll return home and start a vineyard there (far off dream, I know). There are grapes that grow only in that region, and they are simply amazing.

Agreed with everything here. Now that my parents have let me drink a little I see that it's not really a big deal and don't really care a whole lot for it. If I were to go to a party now with this mindset I might only have a few drinks but I would prefer chocolate milk over any alcoholic beverage any day.

Actually, all the intelligent structured debate took place a few pages ago. You have contributed to none of it, as I see is often the case with your posts. So, you have no room to talk.

This thread at some points was almost CT material, and probably should have been moved there when it was "alive", before ryan, Milk, and fido came in. And if you think it's over difference of opinion, as has been suggested before, I disagreed with foilman, though we each seem to respect each other's differences in opinion.

I was acually the second person to even post in this thread and was expecting it to turn into a bunch of people saying "OMG YEZ MABE SHUD B 16". Also I know I used to post like a ****** but since I have improved my posting greatly. I just recently went though the the first page of "Other posts by Mans0n" and I can truthfully say that 80% of the posts is just whoring like saying "kkk" in the SM Scores thread. Also I know Milk Chan's post wasn't CT material but it did bring up a point I wanted to touch and wasn't really a horrible post, it just wasn't structured perfectly for a debate and this is CC so it's to be expected.

Ok well sorry im not using dictionary words to live up to your standards but im being somewhat blunt. Banning alcohol was mentioned and obviously that wouldn't work because if people stopped to think for a second they would realize that idea was already attempted decades ago and didn't work and in fact, increased alcohol consumption (and crime as well).

I used thrill in a general sense. With that thrill taken away from many there would probably be a decrease in binge drinking and drinking related accidents.

The people who were saying they should lower it to (insert whatever age they are here) just annoyed me, sorry.

But no go ahead and retort and say im more retarded now or some witty comment or something along the lines of "oh i stopped reading at"/"tl;dr". Im not even gonna argue after this so I don't really care.

The thing with alcohol, your brain doesn't stop developing until you are 27. While you drink legally at 21, you still have 6 years that your brain could develop more, and in my opinion, they need to raise the age on it. Either way I would drink legally, because my state's law says your parent/guardian can take you to a bar, and buy you a drink, as long as they buy it and give it to you in the bar, it's legal. It's pretty weird.

I would say its sort of a give or take situation. I mean, cigarettes are obviously harmful and not good for you at ANY age, yet you still only have to be 18 to smoke. In the end its up to the person whether they choose to drink or to smoke or not.
