I've played something like 2000 songs on FFR, and consider myself more advanced. However, it seem that even when I ace songs, my rank is still in the 1k-2k range because of my 'Good's. If I don't ace a song, I rank anywhere from 1.5k-8k, or thereabouts. Problem is, my rank doesn't say much to me, and it isn't all too encouraging either.
My suggestion is that with the new FFR (Third Light? whatever it's called) version, there should be some improvement to the rank, perhaps you can be a certain level, aside from your multiplayer level, so that your rank can be less than 1000 for once. What I suggest is that you would start FFR as a level 1, and as you get higher scores/better percentages of the perfect score, or any different gauge of ability, you can level up and actually see increases in rank. Of course, there would be a cap to how high level you can be, and advancing in level would become exponentially more difficult as you progress. Say you could go from Level 1 to Level 2 very quickly, because you will quickly get the hang of FFR, but once you reach Level 15, you will have to do a far more difficult song to advance to 16. You could also have goals for each level, or requirements. Perhaps some require you to have a certain score on a given song, others a certain combo on a particular song, and some could just be total overall score from your account ever. Kind of like an RPG where all there is to it is leveling. Yes, it isn't completely necessary, but it would be oh so helpful in giving players a sense of improvement as they continue their FFR careers. |

I think the rank on each song is a fine way of doing things.

I can't help but notice that all the people that have responded to this have something like 2000 posts and at least twice that for games played. This is the minority of FFR users. You think all 1,000,000+ users have played that much? I don't know the stats myself but I have a pretty good idea that something like 10,000 of those (1% for the lay man) have even played 1,000 songs. I'm pretty sure PA means something along the lines of acing a song, but the number of people who actually ace songs that are challenging or harder is probably in the hundreds, since I'm ranked about 3000 and I can't do it.
Actually the people who have said no so far are overall ranked: 33, 13, 620, 6, and 2. The average rank of these folks is 135, and 135/1,021,000 = Top 00.0132% Not exactly what you might call a random sampling. Last edited by madpear; 11-8-2006 at 02:11 PM.. |

well... we currently have multiple ranks.
1. overall rank. overall rank has ZERO bearing on how skillful you are at FFR, directly. clearly, on average, the more you play the better you are... but there are some people with a very high overall rank that are fairly bad at the game. all overall rank is is a measure of how much time you put into FFR. 2. multiplayer rank. MP rank is a head to head level system, similar to that of the Halo 2 multiplayer system. it is about as accurate of a system as we can get to measure skill on a head to head basis... clearly it is not perfect, but if you can come up with a better system beyond a few minor tweaks, i'm all ears. 3. average rank. average rank is the TRUE measure of how skilled you are compared to everyone else. first, it uses each person's best score on a level to give them a rank on that individual level... a measure of that 1 persons skill on that 1 level, relative to everyone else. THEN it does this for every other level. Now we can see how each person ranks on every level compared to every other person. THEN... you add take the average of all of those ranks, and voila... you have your average rank. the lower your average rank, the more skilled you are. but, once again, this isn't a perfect system... but it is BY FAR the most accurate. the flaw is that it requires a person to play every level. if you do not play a level, you are given the last place rank on that level, which greatly hurts the average rank. so, assuming you play every level, average rank is by far the best means to judge. again, i give you the opportunity to come up with a better system. and when i ask you to come up with something better, i mean something specific... giving a generalization of an idea isn't helpful at all. if you want something changed in this aspect, you really need to be as specific as possible. hope that is a more well rounded answer for you.

The average rank sounds better, but I don't know where that is visible. Maybe I've just been overlooking it, but I haven't found it yet.

I don't understand your paroblem with the way things are, If you get better... You eill get a better rank... Where in your system......IF you get better You get a better. I think they are the same but your way is far too complex to even care about.

I agree with Tass, average rank is very accurate. I see nothing wrong with the system FFR uses now. If you cant PA songs, and others can..you rank wont be as high as there. just gotta practice..or get lucky..lol
