Didn't feel like digging up a thread if we had one recently. This was released on Hallowe'en in North America and I have a friend who has it. He says it's absolutely amazing so I'm gonna pick it up on my birthday in eleven days.
I've been going around the net looking at it and it seems like a mixture of Tactics, Tactics Advance (Boooo), and FFXI which I never played. The Gambit System seems alright, I don't think I'll mind it and I'll probably learn to like it. The License Board is what really catches my attention; there is no preset classes like in the other FF's. For example, in FFVII or FFIX people like Aerith and Dagger/Eiko were the white mage types. In FFXII on the other hand you can set anyone to anything. You can make your main character anything from a barbarically strong knight, to a skillfully swift thief, to a fragile summoner. That aspect of customization reminds me of Fable which I had a grand ol' time playing. The story of the game seems... bleh, for lack of a better word. Yes story does make up a good percentage of the game but in my opinion I'll work with it even if I don't appreciate the story at all. And lastly, the music strongly resembles FFT which I love dearly. Once I get it and start playing I'll update what I think of it more and how it feels. I'm kind of wary of letting the computer control the other characters in battle even if I have set their priorities though... |

It's the best 3D FF. I downloaded it a month ago, but I haven't gotten around to beating it.

Just bought this for PS2 last week, i Have to say first off that i am a hard gamer to impress. I am VERY picky when it comes to RPG's and this one does it for me. Everything about this game is phenomenal, the graphics, the story line, the battle system... I would love to sit here and discribe it more but you need to go buy it. NOW.

I've had the game for three days now and I have sixteen hours of playing time on it. It's actually an amazing game, the boss battles are hard and make you rethink your strategy ever time. The battle system, graphics, and pretty much everything else are just awe striking. I'm not a fan of the story, it's just like most of the earlier FF's. "Kill the evil empire pl0x etc." Summons have to be one of the coolest things about this game. They're just completely massive beasts that are insanely powerful, they get decent length cut scenes for just attacking. The new limit break-esque things are awesome. If they combine, which I don't know how to control it just happens sometimes for me, it does nuts damage (Almost killed Vossler in one hit with it, 7000 damage to him and his three guards, killed the guards). I strongly suggest getting this game, you won't be disappointed at all. The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to get gil, for me at least, making weapons and spells and technicks hard to obtain.

I like the graphics, not really the main characters voice so much, it gets to me fast.....the battle system reminds me of WoW.
Guess that's why I've only played an hour and never left the beginning city yet...I always play WoW instead when I think of playing FFXII. |

I like the license grid, especially how customizable it is. I try to designate certain parts to each person so each can work together to be a fully self sufficient team, but it seems easier to just give everyone everything. It's not like it's hard to get LP so am I missing something or is that the point?

in the beginning its good to be different. But eventually, yes, at around lv50-60 you should have a full licence grid for all characters, so everyone is basicalyl the same. But you can still give em different armor types and weapons. But with magics, everyone can cast em all. But mystic armor users cast morep roficently.

I think I'm gonna take a break for a bit, played all of today. I need to majorly level all my characters anyways. I'm stuck at the Elder Wyrm, right after the Tiamat. I did Inferno on him for ~7k and had Belias do Hellfire and some other stuff, plus attacked him for a couple minutes. Collectively I probably did 15k damage all together and it was maybe a fifth down his health bar =\

I found out about the Mist abilities really early on in the game and i think that even though they are somewhat difficult to master, they are a little overkill. For me, i found it really easy to beat bosses and high level fiends with it while i was at really low levels. One question though, has anyone ever gotten past inferno to cataclysm? I have only gotten it to happen like twice and that was when i hit the button right 7 times in a row. Anyway, i am a big fan of the gameplay even though it seems kinda easy, but maybe its just because i am not very far yet. I just barely got into that one guys tomb to get the dusk shard or whatever to prove Ashe's royalty.

You haven't really fought any hard bosses yet slipstrike. The Garuda was probably the hardest so far but you fight worse ones soon. I've only gotten Inferno, but I've done it three or four times. I've never gotten Cataclysm though.

Well i dunno, i seem to spend an excessive amount of time getting my license boards all maxed out. All of my characters are like level 25 right now with at least one mist ability per person, Vaan's attacks range from like 200-to like 400 something and with all of those Max HP upgrades in the license board they are about 1000 a piece and my gambits make sure that generally no one dies but if they do i use revive or whatever to get them back up. Do you think that this is a pretty good layout for what i have ahead or should i spend a little more time preparing?

More like go spend 5 hours fighting Omega. 100 million HP is a lot.

There's another Omega Weapon? ****in' lame. I haven't checked any of the guides or anything cause I'm beating it on my own first time threw. I beat the Elder Wyrm on my fourth try. Just gotta use Belias to take out the Treants and that way you don't waste alot of Quickenings so you can focus on the Wyrm. I got lucky with Sporefall too, he only did it three times. The first time it only got Balthier, second it got Vaan and Basch, and third time it only got Balthier again.

Omega only has 5 million. Yazmat has 50 million. takes about 3 hours to kill him.
And with quickenings...you wont use them later on. having a full mana bar is MUCH better than using quickenings..specially when your attacking normally for 20-30,000 damage...WITH haste..quickenings and summons suck. Early on they're over powered tho. If your having problems with that elder worm guy in the golmore er whatever jungle. Just go do Back to barheim Passage sidequest and steal some Deathbringers. (+90 attack 1handed sword). You can even go get the Zodiac Spear (+150 damage spear) assuming you didnt open the special chests. |

I didn't open any chests =\ I beat the Elder Wyrm but damn, those weapons sound good. Especially the Zodiac spear since Vaan is my spearman. I guess I could get the sword to Ashe since I'm making Basch a Great Sword user. Barheim passage you say? I don't recall the place, I'll look it up.

Yea..It's the place you rescue Basch I beleve. Theres a sidequest that lets you get the key to go back in. Then you have to run through hard aggro mobs and run over to a rare monster and steal the deathbringer from it before it kills you..then zone out. You can even save and go back in and get anohter 1...or 15..lol

Sorry for the bump, but i found out how to get the different concurrences at the end of each mist ability. Its a nifty little strategy guide thing that helped me out a lot.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/459841.html Just look for the one that says "Quickening Guide 12/08/06 Genzen 2.0 21K" Last edited by slipstrike0159; 12-23-2006 at 01:40 AM.. Reason: Hmm... i didnt know about that, sorry |
