Since the arcades doesn't use stepmania, but konami's own software, it's not very easy to say how they are compared to each other. I don't know much about this, but I can state an example.
In The Groove 2 machines is built using stepmania in some way. I do not know if they have J4 the same way as Stepmania has J4, but it's not way off I guess. Getting an excellent on the ITG machine is way easier than getting a perfect on DDR (I am always referring to DDR Extreme when I talk about DDR arcade), but getting a fantastic is harder. What I now would like to compare is a song I have played, both on DDR EX and ITG 2 (if we assume that ITG 2 uses the stepmania JD). Because of the r21 patch on ITG 2, you can bring songs shorter than 2 min on a USB stick and play it on the machine. Therefore, I tried Max 300 on the ITG 2 machine. Here at home, I have a DDR Extreme arcade machine. My personal best is about 25 greats FC. I tried Max 300 at the ITG 2 machine once. I almost didn't warmup, so I just tried the song. It was our first time playing non-ITG songs on the machine, so we just wanted to try 'em out, even though we almost didn't warm up. What did I get? 1 great, 1 miss. I didn't TOTALLY OWN the song like never before, it was just a random decent score. It shows that getting few greats on the ITG machine (and hence stepmania) does not even come close to getting the same score on a DDR machine... J5 on stepmania is probably a lot closer, but it could also be a bit too much. I don't really know. Just go try it on an arcade machine when you can clear it on your pad ![]() Conclusion: DDR timing is not easily compared to SM timing, but it is more strict for sure. ![]() |

OH THE ENORMOUS DIFFERENCE.
Anyway, these scores aren't bad at all for someone who's just starting out stepmania. Keep it up ![]()

I've been playing keyboard for like over 8 months, is that really still just starting out? lol
Unless you are reffering to my pad scores, in which case, thanks.

Despite all the (totally valid) critiscism I get for that file, it is actually quite fun sometimes.
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Reviving thread becuase of awesome pad scores I got today. It's cool to be able to compare to how bad I was back then. I actually have only played like one or two hours more in total since I posted those scores, lol what an improvement!
Anyway, after coming home from seeing Borat (great movie) I got this: ![]() Which was cool becuase I suck at the patterns in this song. So then I tried some 9 footers: ![]() Easy. (Why is this 9 feet?) So I decided to try this and ![]() OMFG I passed. I absolutely can't do that gallop thing with my feet, man this is a hard pass. Then I got my first pad A (on max 300 lmao), comboed the first section of 8ths and the spin/crossover thing, as well as the quarter jacks at the end. Good stuff. ![]() And right after, my first AA! Whoo ![]() So yeah. Comment on what I can do to improve. P.S. I tried Max300 heavy and got to the freeze again, I still die becuase of stamina at those trills, my legs just give out. I think if I had enough stamina I just might be able pass it >_<

Arcade is around judge 5.5 basically. And judging by your current scores, I don't think you'll be able to pass max 300 heavy quite yet... But don't let what I think stop you... The only thing you really need to do that song (at your level that is...) is stamina and the ability to understand where to put what foot =P
Timing you don't need to PASS max 300, so its very possible to have a guy B max 300 standard and pass max 300 heavy :P But my advice is, if you're going for a pass in the arcade, do it first stage, because your lifebar will deplete a lot slower on your first stage than it would in your last stage... Progressive lifebar is what they call it =P

What's your suggestion on how to do the gallops in So Deep better? Obviously the problem I'm having is accuracy, I do them in a similar way to a jump, and i nail the first arrow and get greats/goods/misses on the second one. Even worse is that I look like some spazzing out asian hillbilly when I do them.
I have comboed each part of Max 300 standard separately, but never in one run. anuj, for some reason plaing first round at the arcade (which is like L2 or something) seems like cheating to me ![]() Also if I fail it will be a royal waste of 50 cents. Also, hi Shash I have school just becuase you have a free year doesn't mean I dont still have like 10 essays each week. ![]() I'll see if I have time but i have lots of crap becuase i got unlazy this year.
