I didnt know what to actually call it but i hear people play index or things like that. Basically I've been playing FFR for a little while and the whole time ive been plalying with my right hand, index finger, middle finger, ring finger and just those 3 fingers on all 4 arrow keys. I have experimented wiht other ways but the way I do it seems the most natural. I am ranked overall in the 3000s and i have been improving greatly but some people tell me i will never be able to do the really really hard songs the way that i play. I am just curious if there are any people that play the same way as me and can do the masters only and gurus only songs. Should i do what doesnt feel natural to me and possibly get better or just stick with the way i play. This is important.....sort of.

You should only play a certain style if it is most comfortable with you. That's why I'm a spreadist.
OMFG I SAID SPREADIST AGAIN. |

but i cant tell if i would get used to spread or index or wahtever if i tried it and practiced with it, i could potentially be better than i am but ive put so much time into playing my way i want to kepp doing that while at the same time i want to get better.....i guess im just wondering if anyone else has switched to a different style and it made them better.... or if everyone should just do their normal thing...

If you would ever switch to a new style, then yes, it would take time to learn it and get used to it. But basically, if you learn a certain style, and you find it uncomfortable, then you shouldn't play that style. Instead, you should learn another style that you find comfortable.
That was what I was basically trying to put through into your thick skull. And what I was trying to put through into everyone's thick skulls. |

But people tell me that certain things can be near impossible to do the way that i play so in the first place all i really wanted to knoow is if thats true. And I don't need opinions about my skull coming from your thick skull to tell me that. I need someone that knows about my play style and who has had a similar experience to mine a.k.a not you!

Actually, I used to be a one-hander. I went from One-Hand to Index to Four Finger to finally Spread. I went through three different styles to find a style that I liked best. And also, all styles have certain weaknesses. For example, Spread players have great accuracy and speed, but they have problems with combo'ing trills.

One-handers are pretty much all-around. I would have to say that the only problem with one-handers would be speed. But, of course, the speed problem can usually be breached, meaning that one-handers are pretty good.

Yes thats exactly my problem, ill use the go go power rangers song as an example. I can easily combo the first 150 but then it speeds up and i can read the arrows fine but they move on the screen faster than i can move my fingers which is really frustrating! And i can't really get used to other styles.

best finger position.... shocker: 2 in the pink, 1 in the stink.
and 1-handed is gimped, all around. lol. 4-finger/spread is the ONLY way to go.

1-handers are, in general, just not as good as 2-handers. The best one-hander in the world, Korny, is probably 15th or so overall, and the next best one hander probably isn't even top 50.
Note also that ALL the Tier 1 players play spread. Spread basically allows you to play anything on FFR effectively, while with other styles there are some songs (like pants) that are simply impossible to do well on. Index is mainly for avid DDR players who are used to that way of reading arrows, so unless you're a bigtime DDR player I'd advise against index.

i used auto hotkey to set sread up for keys A and S for left and down and K and L for up and right and i played that way for about 2 hours but i just wasnt quite as good as i was when i played one handed. It just seemed so unnatural to me. Now i don't plan on being ranked in the top 50 or anything but i really like to be abble to do the harder songs!

Like I said before, only play a style that you can learn and feel comfortable with. And also, spread takes a while to learn, because your brain has to learn the style. After playing spread for a couple of days, you'll get used to it.

I started 1-hand and found it really hard to do some easy songs, for instance, Secret Zombie Room, mostly because I was a noob at the time and 1-hand is really hard to go fast with. So I switched to the spread (at least I think it's the spread).

An example of spread on FFR would be; Left Arrow Key, Down Arrow Key, Num Pad 8, and Num Pad 6. Basically, if you're using both the arrow keys and num pad (two fingers for each), then that would be considered spread.

Then stick with one hand. Noone should tell you which style you should play. (Although, I somehow got hypnotized into Moogy's grasp. That's how I became a spreadist.)

Index. As the name implies, use your index fingers.

Yeah I'm not spread then, I have 2 left hand fingers on down & left, and 2 right hand fingers on up & right.
