Battlefield 1942 let's you take control of almost anything on the battlefield. Jeeps, tanks, gun emplacements, anti-aircraft guns, etc. You can also enter some buildings like windmills and little farm houses.
So, I'd say that game let's you have alot of freedom... |

Morrowind gives you the most freedom...you'd have to play the game to understand how much freedom you have in the game. No, Morrowind is not an mmorpg simply because it isn't able to be played online...if anyone actually has played it online, just correct me.
Zelda doesn't really give you freedom to do almost anything in any place at any time...you can't just go up to Ganon within 10 minutes of starting the game and try to beat him, the side-quests are pretty limited in number, and you can't kill the stupid townsfolk. The Sims and Animal Crossing don't really have much of a point to them...so can they really be counted as games that give you "freedom" since they are basically free-form games. Then again...it all depends on what GENRE the game belongs to...for an adventure game, Zelda does offer a good amount of freedom for the genre...for an RPG, Morrowind provides freedom beyond that of most other titles...for a FPS, Battlefield 1942 offers a good amount of freedom...so on and so forth...it just depends on the genre of the game. You can't really compare the freedom of a Nascar racing game to that of Microsoft Flight Simulator...or a FPS to that of a Platform...or a Strategy game to a RPG...so on and so forth...it just doesn't work out that well.

Morrowind is definitely one of the biggies. You don't have to do anything, but even if you only complete the main quest, it'll still take 100+ hours. Beyond having lots of freedom, the game is freaking huge. GTAIII and GTA Vice City give you a lot of freedom. Deus Ex is another game that has multiple ways to do something. Also, Star Wars:KOTOR has multiple endings and choices within the game.
And shame on you who said Zelda. The Zelda series is supposed to be linear. |

in a way, zelda isnt linear but in a way it is. by not linear you can choose to or not to do the sidequests. its linear because the path of the quest is set for you. but how the path will form for you is your chioce. you could do sidequests before you do a dungeon or vice versa.

yes but as he said its linear. you cannot choose which dungeon you would like to go to. its like if you wanted to do the last but you cant because ya gotta do all of the other crap you have to take care of first like get the important items and the like. actually ill change my vote from gta to maybe some final fantasy games. yes i know its linear but you can do many sidequests before you go on to the next objective or you could level up and all of that.
