So I bought an iPod Video, right? Well, I can't use it because I have Windows 98SE, and you need at least 2000 for it to register when you connect it to your USB port-place.
Problem is, my computer is ooold, so if I were to purchase a new version of Windows, I have the feeling it would just destroy my computer, or not be compatible at all. The computer has 4 gigs of memory, with about .4 left, and 64 Megs of RAM. I don't know if any other statistics are important, but if they are, I'll figure them out. So my question is, should I buy a new version of Windows, or just get a new computer altogether? |

I (myself) would buy a nice little notebook for an iPod and to play SM. It may not be a full blown computer, but it should hold quite a few songs.

New comp no doubt. But I cant help but think that you may have wasted your money when you spent 300-400 bucks on an iPod where your computer is so old you need to spend at least 500 more just so you can update it. 64mb RAM isn't enough to do anything at all these days. But yeah iPods are nice if you can get a new computer..just don't leave it anywhere...or leave the backlight on in the daytime... or let anyone else breathe on it...

You need a new computer. If you upgrade to Windows 2000, you will literally wait hours before it boots up.

You could run windows 2000 on that. Or you could just buy some more ram, because that'd likely be the limiting factor in running a newer OS, seeing as how my friend runs XP on a PII 200mhz laptop.

umm 256 or more recommended... otherwise it's not worth it in the RAM department for 2000 or XP(won't even load properly, let alone the wait time.)... Go Dell if you can deal with customer support that thinks you're 3 when you get a virus... >_<
umm... yeah... .4 gigs is not enough to hold ANYTHING but a text file now-a-days.... new computer highly suggested one way or another... A TI-83+ calculator at that point is a step up....

These days, you can get a pretty decent computer for a relatively low price. Check out some of the Dell desktops. Quote:

Yes, it feels odd having a handheld device that crushes your desktop in terms of harddrive space. I have about $300 to spend, and I don't particularly care about the amount of space, but I want to have a lot of ram. My friend has 2 gigs of ram, and I love the amount of stuff he can do all at once. I know that I definitely won't get that much for $300, but would looking around my local Wal-mart or Best Buy or something turn out something like this?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=A180-2026 Or this computer not good in any way? I'm horrible with computers. |

Oh, and if you want to buy brand name, go with HP. Gateway sucks hard (stuff breaks, CS is terrible), and once you buy a Dell computer, you have to buy Dell parts.
