the death penelty is tough in the sence of inocennt people
however, like someone else said, the advances in DNA are going to make it so that a FAR less percentage of inocennt people are convicted.
so, i am half and half on the death penalty now, so i dont know which way i am headed.

I'm 100% agaisnt it, because I simply beleive no good reason exists in this world to justify killing somebody. Anybody who does or supports it, in my mind, is a murderer as well.

I will stay quiet on my opinion of the death penalty.

However, if I wanted to have a penalty to scare people into never doing crimes, I would have commercial ads that go something like this:

"Heyyyy, what's up? Enjoying that vodka? You better, cuz youre not getting anymore in a looooong time! Do you know what happens to people who get in car accidents while drunk? *The entire rest of the ad is pictures of what happens when you drop the soap in jail*"

I dont know about homosexuals, but I think that'll keep alooooot of straight guys from drunk driving. I use the very thought of it as my Anti-Drug!

(Note: No offense to gays.)

lol, woah. Talk about an effective anti-drinking campaign.

A) Way to many smilies
B) That's gross, but it would definitely work. Of course, you know there's always the whole 'censorship' deal and stuff...dammed politicians.

what they used to do in the 60's at my HS before big events like the prom was show pic of people who got into bad accidents while driving drunk. One person was decaptated and shit, it was pretty gross, another has no limbs, anther was burnt to a crisp.
they'd end by saying: "you wanna drink? be my guest, but remember you're running the risk of looking like that one day"
They defenitly wouldn't do it nowadays, but it was very effective, the images made you think twice before picking up a drink.

i don't know... personally i think the jail idea would be a good idea for low offenders.. like i'm talking caught for possession, caught for having a wepon, (and not using it, obviously) , tax fraud .. you know.. that kind of thing.. and there would of course be a set limit on minimal time spent. like 5 year.. and then depending on the crime it would go up. i think a mojor change that would be good, though, would be making them earn their food. like so that we would't be paying for them, as much, the prisson would issue high security jobs ... yadda yadda yadda... of course i think if the crime is really really huge.. as in.. rapists, murderrs, and such.. they would have to be killed..
also they would get rid of that damn "temperarily insane" excuse.. lol..

Ok. Here's what I think. I am pro-death penalty, to a point. Here's my reasoning. The average innmate in a medium to high security prison costs around $44,000 per year. That's taxpayers money. And with over 2 Million Americans incarcarated in the prison system at any given time, that's a LOT of money. Those people are never going to be let out. They will never 'pull up their bootstraps', so to speak, and become a worthwhile member of the community. They will never hold a high paying or risky job, if they are in for life they will never get out, and so they rot away in Jail flushing money.
word. thats what i was gonna say, but you beat me to it.

and honestly, some people deserve death.

I think our legal system sucks. All the rich people get off cause they higher good lawyers and all the poor people get legally murdered. I think the only reason we have teh death penalty is cause EVERYONE IS CHRISTIAN! Its so annoying, they get everything they want (eye for and eye in this case) cause there are so many... its not fair, i wanna move.

I'd say I'm pro-death penalty, especially when the victims are children. I mean, it's disgusting when I hear on the news that a 3 or 4 year old was murdered. What I'm saying is that, is someone intentionally kills a child, they don't deserve to live. WHat did they ever do to diserve that fate?

Also, I've done some research on this subject a couple of years ago, and like Ambercrombie0909 said, it's cheaper to administor a leathal injection than to keep an an inmate alive for 20...30...40 years. Besides, there is already a problam with prison overpopulation. Erecting new prisons cost millions (possible slight exaggeration there).

With DNA testing and improved technology, the chance that an innocent person will be convicted dramatically decreases, the only exception being due to planted evidence, but that's a whole other animal.

Thumbs down Re: Death penalty

I don't like the legal system today.
Our judges would administer the death penalty with blindfolds and earplugs on.
And you just cannot say that some judges aren't racist. Even black ones. One time a thug robbed a store and got away with a couple hundreds, and got 7 years...
Then this high positioned person in the school system robbed millions from children, and guess what he got. Only 3 years!!!
Dude he robbed millions from CHILDREN and gets 3 years? while this guy robs a few hundreds from a quick stop grocery store and gets 7?!...LoL
and then they let him retire? wtf?
How ritcheous is our legal system?
As ritcheous as selling you a nickel for 1 trillion (wow? random?)

I'd like to make a shout-out to sly cooper...thanks for letting me borrow your fortune!
