Default About an old topic - Are you happy?

There was a topic once, im not sure if it was here or on arch0wl.com but, it was about an article on the net about really being happy. it was bassically talking about to really be happy you have to get rid of expecting to want things to happen (which was the cause for unhappiness) and that you would be actually content and happy because of this.

I can't find it anywhere but If anyone has any recolection of this or knows the article im talking about can you please point me in some direction towards it?

thanks!

No idea where the article is, but I might know a thing or two about being happy, I think ;p

It's all in your head. People often try to define happiness with superficial things, like boyfriends or money or other material goods to try and 'make' them happy, but unfortunately things just don't work that way. People spend all the time in the world looking at reasons why they arn't happy and continue to wander looking for a happiness they'll never ever find; material happiness doesn't exist. No material good or person can ever complete you. They can add to you, but regardless you'll never be happy until you truely learn to except happiness o_O

As I look at, regardless of things that go wrong, wasting your time being down really isn't worth it. The world is a pretty wonderful place and if you learn to find what really makes your brain click, then you can begin to build passions and hobbies and an outlook that will finally let you accept happiness. Yes, happiness is only in your head, but you can't just 'have it' without first changing your outlook and perceptions on what life is really about.

To add to this, I often notice that people find problems with themselves, say, being overweight, being unpopular and such as excuses to their lack of happiness. Often, this things act as like, mental blocks, keeping the happiness out and the focus on the negative feelings in life. However, there is one important thing to remember. What do you accomplish feeling sorry for yourself? Absolutely nothing. However, instead of worrying about what things are 'wrong', why not turn the negative energy into something positive by shooting for a goal. Say, losing weight for example. Instead of saying 'i'm fat' you can say, 'i'm losing weight and I feel great!'. It's not always about being cut and dry, it's about self improvement. Really, you can almost define happiness as self improvement. If you continue to better yourself and learn from mistakes that you make, then why worry about anything that isn't perfect? Life isn't perfect, perfection isn't possible but improvement is, and more definitely, self acceptance.

Google for it then or something. I could go on forever on this topic, but self acceptance and self improvement are the keys to happiness.

Yes, I still play the piano, and still love it. It's definitely a source of my mental energy and self expression ;o

Yes, so could I :P

How little people actually know....

I sitll play. I'm starting heaps of music projects (bands, writing songs etc) it's all coming along good

I play for so many hours each day. I don't know what I would do without it. It's really a way to express. (like art, or something) But it's all......so instant! I love it, in too many ways...

Continue this chat over AIM... please keep threads, especially in CT, on topic.

As such, I don't recall this thread you are mentioning... but feel free to browse the back pages of the forum. If it was on a0, you're SOL, right?

That just sounds like a simple way to increase dopamine flow to your brain... Removing expectations.

AP hit on what I was going to state... the brain matter and chemicals inside you. I'm poorly educated on the topic so my argument wouldn't go farther than Wiki does, but I believe that it's all in your head. I'm guessing that positive attitude and the like also increase dopamine flow?

As for myself, I wouldn't say I'm happy. In fact, my tendency is to be on the more depressed side of things. I've definetly improved my overall mood quality, but I'm really not happy per say. I am, however, much more content with the state (both past and present) of my life.
