Well, if many companies follow through with their threat to fire anyone who didn't show up today, I'd call that a backlash.

that's not what I meant at all. the backlash is that the rallies will appear more politically motivated than not as the group that organized this day is an anti-bush group and bush was kind of on the immigrant's side (I think) regarding the legislation in Congress. dunno. Something like that. Got that out of the BBC story on it.

also just a general backlash in opinion about the issue, really. as in "oh you guys all quit working well now we are less inclined to tell our congresspeople to pass legislation that would benefit you".

Bush is in favor regarding the legislation in congress. Sad thing is that a lot of the people don't know what the hell their doing. they think this is "anti-american" or "Bush is kicking us out let's do something" which it's not. I agree with what you say though.

Why, thank you for your input. I hope you enjoy not visiting the forums.

MC: that is the issue I take with these protests. Half or more of the people out there don't know what the hell they're fighting. High schools in this area have sponsored assemblies/rallies where students and teachers can discuss what's going on in an open forum and actually UNDERSTAND what it is people are protesting.

And either no one participated in protests in Waco or there are WAY fewer Mexicans here than I thought.

Wow, there's a whole lot of banned in this thread.

I feel like I'm looking at a GameFAQs thread that's over two years old.

(To the 2 guys I banned) Posting insults in here directed at me will not make your ban go away. It will just get you IP banned at the firewall.

Cheers,

The school was pretty chill today. Also the roads were a ton less crowded.

I'm suprised that this thread hasn't been locked yet. We don't have much problems with Illegal Immigration here in Australia, they can only get here one way, Boats. Our Coast guard usually picks them up as soon as they hit our waters. I can relate to your circumstance though we have alot of Asian migrants and i live right near one of the more prodominate onclaves of Asains and Muslims.

I would LOVE to see a bunch of people getting fired/otherwise disciplined for skipping out on work like this.

However, that has more of a point than missing school for it. Seriously, were people actually dumb enough to skip school for something on which they would have no effect?

The only possible reason for that is to further raise awareness (like talisman stated), but to get together and miss school? Lame.

I find it funny.

I didn't notice anything different, but I live in Connecticut so I'm just a little bit far away from the issue. I don't think the economy would crumble from getting rid of all the illegal immigrant workers. There might be some inflation as talisman said, but inflation has been going on for a while now. That doesn't destroy the economy. If anything, it will make it harder on the illegal immigrants to purchase anything in this country. Especially if they aren't allowed to work without becoming a citizen. But what the hell do I know? I'm no economic specialist.

I have to agree with that. What's the point in skipping out on school for a day if it really isn't going to make a big effect on anything. I think for some of them this would just be a good excuse to cut school for the day and stay home.

I'm only banned until 7:00 today, so it's not like it's worth it to cause any trouble.

You're probably going to be banned for longer now for ban evading.

Just warning you.

Sertman's right on this one. It's ONLY Mexicans.

EDIT: I must explain. The Mexicans are the only real people who are crossing into America. Of course, that's not 100% true, but mostly the southern states are fuelled by the Mexican blood of the workers... not illigal farm hands from... oh... Congo?

An internesting point: over 400 Mexicans die each year (on avg) trying to cross the border. On average, only 13 people would die each year by crossing to West Germany. Comments?
