Default Best Guitar Solo in a song

I want to know what song you think had the best guitar solo. I thought that the one in Eruption by Van Halen was really good considering how hard it sounded. In your post try to put the name of the song and who sings it.

Has to be something by Symphony X, can't decide which. That or a few dream theater guitar solos (Fatal Tragedy springs to mind).

Eruption, Bark at the Moon's, Stairway to Heaven, One, Sweet Child O' Mine. All along the watchtower.

I used to think the 80's were all great and all, that was until I found the 70's, now I find it hard to find anything of worth in the 80's bar Faith No More, REM, Marillion, some 80's camel albums (70's are better) and a few others.

How about Contagion by The Black Dahlia Murder.
That has the by far sickest guitar solo ever on this planet.
If you actually play guitar youll see why.
Nothing but Tremellos, bends, ghosts, pinch harmonics, scales, and arpegios.
Its insane.
Someone check it out.
Feedback plz.

Not really the BEST solo ever, but a cool one.

The bestest would have to be Fury of the Storm by Dragonforce or just about anything by Rhapsody (Steelgods, holy thunderforce, Emerald sword... meh).

Actually that Bohemian Rhapsody solo is a fantastic one, but unrelated to the fact it was from the 80s.

For Rhapsody, I personally like Unholy Warcry, for some reason.
Fury of the Storm is a good Dragonforce one, but also the solos in Starfire are particularly nice.

Helloween's Future World and I Want Out
and Gamma Ray's New World Order I happen to be particularly fond of.

I realize that's a lot of power metal. But also Dio's Stand Up and Shout, I like, as well.

ok seriously im just kidding although that is a really good song by styx. i have to go with bohemian rhapsody. that or maybe thunderstruck by ac\dc

edit: actually i was just thinking. Back in black by AC\DC the actual concert. the 15 minute solo kinda takes the cake if you think about it. that was one monsterously good solo

I saw a van halen live video where he pretty much jammed all of his solos into one giant meteor of awesomeness. It was over half an hour long. Not many other things can top it.

but FOTS and MSWGO are close up there.

How could anyone say anything except Eric Johnson in Cliffs of Dover?

Although, MSWGO is really good...

Rhapsody is one of the worst attempts at a band I've ever heard. I'm tired of all of you StepMania nerds thinking it's good music just because the damn stepfile is good. I told this to dAnceguy and I'll tell it to you all.

Led Zeppelin+Dungeons & Dragons=Not at all no.

Dragonforce is a little bit better than Rhapsody, but I doubt any of you would have heard of the band had you not played StepMania.

As for guitar solo, I stand by my previous song (Baroque and Roll). I approve of any song by Yngwie that DOES NOT have lyrics to it, any song by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, etc.

The best guitar solo is the entire song of "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson. That song is amazing. Also, Crazy Train is pretty awesome too.

Led Zepplin? What the ****, you don't know what you're talking about. I don't give a **** about the Stepmania files. I like the music. They are one of the bands with the most musical talent I've ever seen. And I'm not talking about the lyrics here. I'm talking about real composition talent, arragements, solos, riffs, etc. Luca is a great musician and Alex Strapoli has this awesome talent of mixing classical music and power metal. Now shut up before you say something stupid again.

P.S. I've discovered Dragonforce on the MXTabs Musician forums in the You Send It thread (which is now locked because of legal issues I guess).
