Ok, listen to this. Here I am, an FFR noob, and I am trying Flight of Bumblebee. I am one handed. I could only get 15 seconds into the song. I thought, "If I change my finger positions..." And it worked. The first time I changed it I got half way. The second time I beat it. My first insane song beaten. Here's me set up.
Up Arrow - Right Index Down Arrow - Left Index Left Arrow - Left Middle Right Arrow - Right Middle Im sure that there is a name for this. But I felt like posting any ways. I love this set up. I am gonna go try some other songs like it.

Actually that's the main 4 finger style.
I kinda suggest you to try this so you get more space.. Up Arrow - 8 (numpad) Down Arrow - Left Index Left Arrow - Left Middle Right Arrow - 6 (numpad) but its up to you beh. |

Well theres a problem there. I am on a laptop, and it doesnt have a number pad. I have to save up to buy myself a nice wireless keyboard. Preferably, a logitech.

I havent got my laptop running ffr well yet. Nobody seems to know how to pipe the sound through arts in slackware. SM is playable but runs quite slow.

blah. I've got a laptop too and I feel your pain. Either I try to cram my fingers onto the arrow keys that are half the size of the other keys, or I turn on the num lock that turns 789/uio/jkl into my numpad, which is hard because the keys are slanted.
Maybe I'll just get a USB keyboard and be done with it.

You could remap your keys so you can use whatever keys you want act as "arrow keys" when you play. Freeware 'hotkey' programs can be found to help you do this.
This did wonders for my FFR ability because i couldn't press three arrow keys at the same time with my laptop keyboard. Keys FGJK work great with no conflict when all are pressed. But all keyboards are different. |

Well, I would think that that would be hacking. And I got like 124 combo on that Bumblee Song. Its easier this way. SInce I am not use to itl, It is sort of hard. I think I am going to get a USB keyboard, and It doesnt matter. I have this adapter thing so I can use USB mouse and Keyboard. Its coolio.

Nothing.

Reamapping your keys is definately NOT hacking in any way lol, its just changing which keys do what on your own keyboard

I dont feel like changing. I have been playing StepMania alot more lately. I use WSDA setup. Its simple for me. I get good scores with it.

I tried that set-up. It didn't work out well for me. It is quite a weird setup.

OFFTOPIC: -_- i've been playing SM for a wireless keyboard for freakin ever. It's fun when Gateway makes the stuff lol =D
ONTOPIC: And have you ever tried spread? It feels wierd at first, but its great compared to the fact that you use the main part of the keyboard (the letters [aeiouandsometimesy]) |
