Default Retraining two handed.

I'm a casual player and have always played one handed. Been around for quite a long time but check in every now and then to have some fun.

Problem is now, im starting to feel the limitations of one handed play. My absolute limit is.. say... the "bonus" section of The Legend of Zelda, which i can just manage to FC one handed, but anything harder than that is beyond me and has been for a while. Ive AAA'd Secret Zombie Room and Breaking The Common but now im at a proverbial wall.

So my question is: Now that im so integrated into one handed play, is it going to be possible for me to start from the beginning and play two handed? Has anyone actually gone from maxed-out one handed to two handed play?

I've played around with two handed on some beginner songs but its really hard to give up my one handed style. :P

Yeah it can be hard to make the switch, just keep at it and you'll be fine

I did it when I was around 3500 games played, at about the same place as you. Yeah it is possible, you just need to start all over again basically.

I started fooling aroudn with SZR until I could FC that well with 2 hands (with good timing). It is possible.

Im with chickendude on this one.

I played one handed for about 8 months. I wanted to try harded song but I couldn't do a lot of songs with one hand. So, I switched over to index. It sucked but after going over the basics again, in about 3 moths, I was able to play the harder songs I was not able to with one hand.

Its all up to you if you want to take the time and start over again. The only thing that cool about one hand, is that there arnt many good one handed players out there. So if you become good with one hand, props.

Actually, I just made the transition, and im alrdy doing better. But if all you could do one handed was the bonus round at the end of Zelda, I think your a bit more behind than you thought, I can do Uber Rave, Caprice, and many others one handed (I dont do them well but I can complete them easily). Two hands is better though, and I found the transition to be easy, but I guess it depends on how much and how long youve been playing.

Transition wasn't easy for me
there was a lot of shuffling back and forth for me actually
there were certain things I could do better 1 handed, and some stuff better 2 handed

I play 4 fingered BTW, I was never index at any point. Index seems weird to me, but I guess its that same, I haven't tried it extensively syndrome.

I think you should stick with one hand play. If you are already good and you really feel uncomfortable with two hands, stick with one hand. I used to play one handed, but I decided that I would rather be able to pass harder songs with two hands and get a crappier score because my timing two handed isn't exactly great. Fingers get tangled until you get used to it. Just see which play style is more fun for you. Remember, this is a game and it is all about having fun.

i tried switching to two hand, i get a much better combo now on hard songs, but songs like secrete zombie room i cannot beat anymore, just pass with a few misses. + i get much more boo's with 2 hands. But if i practice a little more i can work on all of those problems, so 2 hands will eventually pass the limits of one hand. at least for me :P.

I'm trying to make the opposite switch. Well, not switch per sé, but I want to be able to use either. Any tips on how to stream with one hand? It mystifies me.

Use your thumb on the down and left arrow keys when necessary. This will drastically improves your mobility. You never need to use the same finger twice for two different steps, either.

It is possible, I did it a while back and the results are AWESOME. I was maxxed on one handed play, and I tried switching over and you just cannot handle 2 hands at first because of the confusion. But after a while of doing songs like zelda, then moving on to blank knowing, alpha helix, ect, I was able to get close or even FC songs like Enemy Storm in Step Mania as a good example. Just keep at it, you will be as good --- if not better --- than you are now.

Left hand is a pain to adjust, it will take a while for left to come close to your right or alternatively if you are a lefty. After 2 months with change, left hand only started coming up to speed compared to right and ability to stream decently challenging songs, oh also, Jumps if they are close together are as confusing as heck, takes a bit to adjust. Practicing on songs such as Candyman helped, My Maid etc. And that infamous for me stream of one arrow with alternative beats for the others, example: See me almost dying on Sonata Claro De Luna, that's what I am talking about. http://www.youtube.com/?v=c-e-zkBP820

Getting better by little tiny bits gradually but I am guessing it will take a while still
