Looking at my last.fm listening history makes me realize I need to really broaden my music tastes to more recent albums.
Death Grips - The Money Store Between the Buried and Me - Automata I & II Killswitch Engage - Disarm the Descent Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP 2 The only other one I can think of is off Metallica’s Master of Puppets box set. Cliff Burton’s final show was released on it and that was a great thing to experience for the first time. |

The Marshal Mathers LP 2 goes hard as fuck for me. That's absolutely one of my favourite records
As a Dream Theater fan I can say A Dramatic Turn of Events and their self titled album are also incredible as well |

Nope. Still just 654x548.
I see Volition though. :eyes: Looks like Pacific Myth, and Scurrilous are also there; maybe Arboreal, and Opus At the End of Everything by The Flashbulb? I don't recognize any other album covers. |

death grips - the money store
kanye west - mbdtf frank ocean - channel orange chance - acid rap childish gambino - Because the Internet flying lotus - cosmogramma tame impala - lonerism (sorry but this album is way better than fucking currents, currents has a handful of tracks that are bops tho) james blake - james blake this is based on my last.fm mostly so i'm sure theres some that arent coming to mind, tho i guess if they didnt impact me well enough to leave that lasting impression then they deserve to be omitted, i guess. a lot of these are hip-hop or aligned with hip-hop in some way but in my opinion they all helped shaped the genre into something completely different and more "emotionally open" for lack of a better term rn. Before 2010 it wasn't really cool to show emotions or deep shit in your rap. A lot of those albums also brought new techniques and styles into the production game. Death Grips was cited by a lot of people in the community as a possible influence on Kanye West's "Yeezus" being so filled with loud and abrasive production for example. and just for the sake of it, here is my 5x5 Last.FM All-time Collage:

Now that an alarmingly sophisticated bot has bumped this thread I can pitch in with my own irrelevant picks:
1. Ravedeath, 1972 - Tim Hecker 2. Returnal - Oneohtrix Point Never 3. Agora - Fennesz 4. Cosmogramma - Flying Lotus 5. Upstream Color (Original Motion Picture Score) - Shane Carruth |
