Wisdom is achieving one's own potential and wasting none of it. To achieve this, one must have a tremendous understanding of both himself, and his surroundings.
A wise man once told me this: "A wise man knows when to hold his toungue. This is why people never seem to understand the virtue of wisdom because of the reasonable question left unanswered by silence. This is also what seperates them from fools, who remove all doubt when they speak." |

wisdom
Only when you can describe the state of being wise will you understand "wisdom"
"J" has spoken (dong) Really, if you look at all your posts your saying the same thing. but from a different point of view than each other. only when you can put yourstelf in another persons point of view. you can understand loosly Quoted "when to hold your tounge" or do anything for that matter. You see a wise man can not experience everything there is to experience alone, he uses his perseption of others and his experiences to gain true knowledge. but again what is wisdom, knowledge, or intelligince for that matter? only someone truly wise. Have I confused u enough? |

RE: wisdom
Thanks. I have another interesting question. Do you think that wisdom is differently viewed in different cultures and religions? I think that in Judeo-Chrisitian wisdom, age and experience is more valuable to the definition of wisdom. However, in Islam wisdom, knowledge and the things that you say seems to be considered wise. What do you think?

Personally, followers of Boccob are going to be more inclinded to follow Intelligence over Wisdom, as they're mostly mages... on the other hand, follower of Hextor wouldn't care about either and would just try and cleave you with an axe.
Pelor followers would be the most likely though... as many of them are clerics.

RE: wisdom
Good point, Tass.
Moreover, I believe that wisdom itself is always defined as the same thing, no matter where you are. But, between ideologies, there are differences between what is good and bad wisdom.

Wisdom isn;t concrete therefor there is no real definition of wisdom. But what i think it is is being knowledgeble up to your full potential. Academically its not very high for me compared to others but that where no concrete definitions for it comes in. I dont know if that makes much sense but that what i have to say on the topic sorry about the spelling its not my best area.

Anyways, I define wisdom as humble advice, because I have always found that the wisest, most experienced people are not overly expressive of advice because they wish for others to experience what they have first hand. Or one could be considered wise if they are at least 100 years old. I mean what picture do you get when you think of wise? |

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Wisdom
I meant it as frame of reference, a sarcastic one, but that response was damn funny. GJ.
I usually get the stereotypical old Asian guy or girl in my mind though. As is such I tend to associate wisdom with age, though I know that isn't always the case. Oh, and war veterans. Now there's someone who is ALWAYS wise. |

Wisdom is the ability to choose the correct, ethical, moral, logical (etc. etc. etc., insert sappy adjective for "right") choice when presented with any decision, ever.
