Guys,
I want to get back into playing Stepmania. I just bought the K70 with Cherry MX Blue switches but I would like other opinions. I can return it for brown or red if they are better. Thanks! |

It really comes down to preference on switches, personally I don't care for brown switches but I'm sure there is probably someone out there that swears they are the best.
Honestly the best thing to do is to try them all out so you can figure out which are the best for you. Personally Logitech's Romer-G switches are my favorite, but again this is all preference.

blue/brown
i have browns atm and they're coo, miss the blue ones most tho. the tactile feel of blue is really fun for timing stuff. but stian suggested brown, maybe for faster stuff?

browns are the best for high level play but it takes a lot of practice to actually fully take advantage of them

I can MA on brown switches just fine (what I've been playing on). stian also plays on brown as well, so it's well-rounded for both accuracy and speed
blue switches feel more satisfying to play on due to the keytaps, but my timing is slightly worse because I'm not used to the actuation point I'm absolute garbage on red switches

I've always been more into MA so maybe ill stick with the blue.
Ill probably test it out for a few days, return it, try the browns and make a decision. Thanks guys. Also, sup kommisar Last edited by bboyflames; 04-19-2016 at 07:18 PM.. |

I've been rocking the reds, I dig them over browns. The tactile
Bump felt like there was food or something stuck under the keys, which annoyed me a bit. Dynam0 is also rocking the reds Last edited by MarioNintendo; 04-19-2016 at 07:52 PM.. |

Brown is ideal due to less actuation force needed compared to blue
Blue has more of a tactile response but that's not really needed to MA well Red has low actuation force as well but with basically no response upon actuation it's not ideal. |

Also looking for recs -- a nice mechanical kb for MAing. Kinda want it to be clicky, unless that ruins MA. Maybe blue or brown switches.

When I played, I used red switches and loved them.

MAing seems to be completely hit or miss when you try a variety of different setups (keyboard, monitor, sm version, vsync on/off etc.) at least for me. I can't really comment on switch types because I haven't experimented a whole lot, my opinion on brown was very negative at first since I bought a brown switch and couldn't play at all on it. Then I tried Staiain's brown switch and it was really easy to get used to. I've been using the same red switch for the last 3-4 years and my MA doesn't suffer despite there being no actuation feedback.
