For those that don't know already, I have a drone/ambient alias. I've had a bandcamp for about a year now, and to be honest, I enjoy making drone and ambient a lot more than I enjoy making music under my AsphyxZero alias. It's not because it's easy or anything. I legitimately enjoy making drone, whether it's made in FL Studio with a VSTi and a couple of effects (like Arae), or in a vst standalone host using my midi keyboard (like Sound of Space EP).
http://rodrone.bandcamp.com/ So far, everything is free to download. Don't have to send your email address, don't have to put a 0 in the box. Completely free. If I end up getting enough attention (someone reviewed this on their blogspot, no idea who it is lol), I'm seriously thinking of making another album. In my opinion, Gascend is the best track I've ever made and I wish I still had the patch for the VSTi I used. ):

I like this kind of music. You are right, Gascend is really good (any story behind the name?)
Seems many speedcore/breakcore fans also have a hidden side that likes ambient music heh must be an attraction to extremes

great stuff man; gascend is definitely a standout in terms of quality -- you've definitely managed to capture an expansive feel with that piece. etendue and continuum are also great tracks with interesting dynamics, although it seems as if you've subtly shifted thematic focus after those two pieces. the first track has some tense, baleful soundscaping, but the final track feels more cosmic and spacious. however, in spite of those minute issues, there appears to be no lack of technical prowess and musical talent. you've got skill.
the big problem i have with most drone and ambient music is that there is some kind of threshold that hampers my ability to enjoy it depending on several factors: if the music is too discrete and sparse, it sort of vanishes and disappears. i'm aware that ambient music is supposed to be enjoyed that way, but it doesn't really facilitate enjoying the music; nor does it listening. ambient/drone is a genre with a ridiculous amount of sonic freedom, but its artists see fit to retreat the same themes over and over again. definitely continue making music in this vein, but i challenge you to deviate from the norm: instead of focusing on cosmological imagery, try and evoke something radically different with your next work. in the absence of traditional instruments, can you make something melodic? wanna bump this, was looking at my stats today after releasing a new track
I know it's not much, but altogether I've made $80 from my music. this was from quite a few people here on FFR that purchased my music last year when I was doing pretty badly financially, and I still appreciate their help immensely. over the course of 4 years, I've had 550 downloads, and nearly 1,300 plays. I still enjoy making music like this, and I don't foresee myself stopping any time soon. I've bounced around with different styles, from minimal drone to loop based ambient music. if you've never checked this project out, I encourage you to click through and see if there's anything you enjoy! everything is still free to download, and any purchases made help me out a ton. thanks, everyone. |
