I don't think you've 'made it' on Youtube unless videos you post get hate comments. I'm very proud when I get hated on. Most notably I was called fat. I know, it's not that impressive, but I hope I make it big one day.

I remember when I was 11, that was when I started playing online gaming. I started out with playing Age of Kings on MSN gaming zone when they still supported the CD. I joined a 3v3 and was so used to just playing with the AI the software had. After about 15 minutes of playing, my entire team was harrassing me calling me the N word, ***, noob, etc. This was a much different gaming environment than what I was used to (usually used to just playing N64 with my friends). I ended up going to my room and crying. Ever since then, I worked on getting better at the game on a more competitive level. So in a way, the harassment payed off......? lol

Harassment is such a charged term, but I can say that insulting language is used a lot in many video game communities. Sometimes, it's good-natured, as in the example of cornman's WoW guild, in other cases it's really virulent and humiliating, like 90% of solo queue games in League of Legends. In most instances, however, it is superficial trolling. A lot of online interactions, when they occur outside the context of playing with friends or a close-knit clan or community, tend to lack any constructive engagement and any pretense of honestly discussing something or upholding any standard of decency.

It is not so much that most people are looking to purpusefully hurt people that they actively dislike, but rather that most people absolutely don't care about establishing meaningful contacts or engaging in a meaningful dialogue. They'll throw a cocktail of banalities, macho speech and flamer's talk at you without caring who you are or what you will make of it. This is what happens when you have shallow teenagers with raging hormones and an indifference to anything substantial thrown together in an arena where they can anonymously and without any consequences do as they please.

Normally when people shit talk against me I go along with what they say and it pisses them off. Pretty funny if you ask me.

I find it highly amusing when someone who is an ESL or doesn't even speak English tries to call you out. More times than not; you find it in team normal Q where you shit on someone in lane so hard they just all chat with their 4 teammates at you to basically try and virtually bully you into losing your lane.
