I'm just calling it out like it is. By his standards, Mellann by MacGravel would have been rejected from the SMGPack (Or whichever one it was in), and that's a fantastic STAPLE Flashbulb file.

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
By my standards it would've been rejected from my pack, not SMG, I wasn't involved with SMG. Other people can set rules for their packs however they want.
Seriously, enough is enough, if you want to debate with me about this issue talk to me on Skype, there are merits to your side but that just isn't how I choose to do things. Last edited by Wafles; 05-17-2014 at 09:56 PM.. |

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
Quick question, since I haven't been following the pack since its inception: did you add this rule to the pack more recently, or was this written as part of the original OP? If you intend to put emphasis on compatability, make sure to reiterate that (and any other assumptions) in future packs from the start.

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
no, catering a pack to 99% of active players is not elitist.
no, you can browse recent scores on stepmaniaonline.net and see for yourself. it's a fact. |

You can't deny tho that doing so is totally looking down on legit ideas and submissions because of non sequitur reasons. Seriously though, excluding X-mod files because "nobody plays them everybody sticks to c-mod" is probably the best way available to truncate the community from coming with cool new charts and contribute to make the game consistently fun, promoting *nice* and *original* alternatives and all that. If the file is good, it's reasonable to accept it and to give it visibility instead of turning it off because "nobody plays it everybody uses c-mod". In fact it's quite preposterous to think it like that, usually that's the kind of problem you have in cultural industries because money is involved. It should not be an issue in a community playing a free game while making free files on their free time. Honestly. There's no sacrifice in accepting something that supposedly nobody would play as long as it's intrinsically good and ffffffffffffun. Maybe that could pull the whole community a bit more upward for all I know.

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
oh I like xmod files and fun things too, haha. I just think decisions should be left up to the pack manager, and I don't think it's an unreasonable decision for one pack series that any xmod file needs to be compatible with cmods.
if it were a community-wide rejection, I think that would be sad, because I enjoy xmod files and because I really respect the effort required to make them. from what I can tell, it's only this pack. another pack will pop up in a few weeks and it will probably accept any file that was in question here and all will be well. - A lot of people that play these packs don't speak English well (Korean/Chilean communites have played these packs quite a bit from what I've seen). People might pick it by mistake and play with cmod and come to the conclusion that we didn't have enough quality control. - Every other major pack I've played that has xmod files has them so that they are playable on cmod. This is not a new concept, it just apparently hasn't been argued so heavily before. - If you put the xmod only in the banner it is not visible to the majority of people who play online. Subtitle would work but I still would redirect back to my first point. - Even still, and this goes back to my first point, I don't want to include files that cater only to a minority. Like it or not, this is a fact, xmod is less popular and very few people play xmod files. I don't see xmod scores posted here hardly ever, and no one on SMO that I ever play with uses xmod. Are there people out there? Yes. Is it worth justifying including a song in a pack that only caters to them? Absolutely not. Like it or not, intense xmod files like this with negative bpm gimmicks basically come down to a memorization game. They are so difficult to sightread that the only scores people can reasonably obtain on them are novelty scores, just a way of saying "Hey look I took the time to figure out how to play this file." I could go on but I really don't see the point in arguing this any further, what it comes down to in the end is that this is a decision we have made, for a number of good reasons. There are counterpoints but we feel that the cons of including these files far outweigh the pros. I'm really tired of arguing this point by now, and honestly everything that can be said has been said and its just going to go in circles. Lets drop it here and just agree to disagree. Other packs may very well have accepted that file (with the drifting sync issue fixed probably) but I will not. I want all of the files in these packs to be playable regardless of your preferred choice of playstyle, all this comes down to in the end is a rule that we have that says "No negative bpm gimmicks". |
