tl;dr awesome strategic roleplaying game series that you should check out.
Noticed a few other people mentioning they are playing Fire Emblem games and I wanted to make a thread. Just finished Path of Radiance and the plot twists blew my mind. Great story, definitely my favorite of the series so far. Doing Radiant Dawn now and it's also really good, I like that the choices you made in Path of Radiance have a small impact if you import the save file. Blazing Sword, released in the west as just "Fire Emblem" for the GBA, is really great and easily emulatable if you don't have a GBA on hand. Probably most people's first introduction to the series (me included) and definitely has enough plot twists and interesting characters to hold your attention. Sacred Stones is the second GBA title, it has a little bit more predictable of a plot and for me wound up being quite a bit easier than the other Fire Emblem titles, but it is also worth picking up. There's also two games on the DS and one on the 3DS that I have yet to pick up, but I plan on playing them eventually too.

Love them but I wish they would make them longer and make a third tier of classes. Always seem to reach end game with my party maxed out without even grinding which is kind of lame.
Radiant Dawn was probably my favorite, but it feels like almost a decade since I played it. Just finished Awakening on the 3DS, I really like the dating sim addition to the game as it added a lot of unique cutscenes as well as the customizable protagonist which led to glorious lines like this ![]()

You are not gonna be disappointed when you get to Fire Emblem Awakening on the 3DS. I still don't have a favorite Fire Emblem, but it is placed right at the top along with Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance. Some crazy shit happens in FE:A.

Sometimes I try to make the game more interesting for myself by setting addtional goals. For example I did both the GBA games without ever using a healer, that made it really hard but it was a fun playthrough. Really made me appreciate vulneraries which I typically find completely useless after the first few missions because I want any damage to be healed by my staff user in order to level their staff skill lol. Explanation: There's a character in EVERY Fire Emblem game that starts out promoted and being able to literally 1-man whole chapters, but has shit exp gain and low stat growths. In the very first game, this character was named "Jeigan" and he named that archetype of character. Usually it's a promoted paladin you get really early on (Marcus and Seth from the two GBA games, for example, and Titania from Path of Radiance) If you overuse this character early, in the later chapters your team as a whole will be underleveled and the Jeigan will start to fall off, making the game almost impossible. The smart thing to do is unequip their weapon and use them as a wall, that way they still tank for you but can't kill things and take all the valuable exp from your characters who have decent growths. Only use them to kill things in dire straits. They're also good for softening up bosses so that your weak characters can get the last hit. The first time I played Fire Emblem I overused the shit out of Marcus, then about 20 chapters in I had to restart because it got literally impossible, that's when I realized who you level makes a huge difference later on. That's literally the ONE thing I've always wanted in a Fire Emblem game... lmfao ded

Awakening is probably the best FE to date. There's so much side stuff too what with the DLC chapters, and like 13 paralogue chapters to have fun with.
Seriously, I've put over 150 hours into the game and I still haven't bought all the DLC. Also, you can class change everyone into whatever you want. ALL OF THE OPTIMIZATION!
