Default Mods and Locking

I have been reading around for a while and I noticed how many people try to do the job of a Mod. People posting things like "this thread should be locked" and "haha in before lock". I think that's almost as bad as post whoring, or keeping the pointless thread going. If you think the thread should be locked, then don't post in it. I think this idea is really simple, but I guess me writing this whole thing makes me sort of a hypocrite. It's not as much the more experienced members as it is the newer ones though (I think). Anyways, the Mods do a good job at keeping things in line around here and I don't think they need your help (unless they ask for it).

Default RE: Mods and Locking

Can we have an example of what you mean of people saying thread should be locked? I mean yeah that one guy who was making fun of Zajac should of had his topic locked before it even got past like 3 posts, but there weren't any mods at the time so we would joke about it. It's not so much that we try to mod, it's just that we know when shit should be locked or not.

Well I would have more examples but I think those topics were deleted, maybe just on a different page. So the only examples of this I have are in the same thread.

What you fail to realize is that most of us justify WHY we think a certain thread should be locked. I am not talking about the typical IBL postwhores. In certain threads we post "This needs to be locked because ____ ." because we want people to stop posting in it. People seem to use lockworthy threads as a place to up their post counts before moderators come by.

When multiple people go into a thread and say it needs to be locked, it makes other members hesitate when thinking about wether or not they should post in it. That's the point.

EDIT: It's funny how you didn't see the joke behind osufan's post.

I don't see a problem with someone telling them what they've done wrong and saying "this is going to be locked."
But you're right about them going on and on whining about how it needs to be locked and flaming the person. It's basicly postwhoring and should stop.

Sorry, just my opinion.

I remember when In Before Lock was cool. Before everyone did it always and forever.

Topics that require locking don't come up often, and they're a good time to have fun with whoever posted deserving the lock.

Whatever, it's kinda immature, but yeah, I don't really care.

Postwhoring doesnt matter. You all say WHY DO YOU ALL CARE ABOUT YOUR POSTCOUNTS STOP POSTWHORING, but that means you care about their postcounts. It's not a big deal, it takes about 0.5 seconds to scroll past the in before lock post. it's not like they're going

ibl
ibl
ibl
ibl
etc

in after lock LOL IMA REBL

On a serious note, the topic creator is right. Request a lock within a topic ohas always been stupid (alert a mod in private if you want to be helpful), and posting "in before lock" has been stupid and unfunny since Moogy and I stopped doing it, and that was a long time ago. It is postwhoring, so cut it out.
