all this is another semantics thing. it really boils down to what your audience believe the meanings of the words you're using are. naturally if your audience is big, i.e. you're releasing a statement to the general public, you're going to find a group that will find some words more offensive than others. i don't mean like statistical outliers here i mean more like variations in the english language, so you really need to be careful what words you use.
still the issue of political correctness is a hotly contested debate especially here in england, a couple of famous cases being the nursery that banned singing the nursery rhyme "baa baa black sheep" and making them say rainbow sheep instead, and when they tried to ban "christmas" and replace it with some non religious festival called "winterval" or something, and when some random guy was criticised by the police for saying "nitty gritty" because the etymological origin of that phrase could be racially offensive or something. finally there was a survey done twice by the bbc on how offensive the public regarded certain swear words and ranked them by offensiveness. the two results were compared and the only noticeable difference was that all the racist words had gone up, like "******" went up from #11 or something to #5. although i have never heard anyone using "*****" in an affectionate sense like a2p is saying in this thread outside the internet, it just shows people are becoming much more sensitive nowadays and i don't think it's a good thing Quote:

If people use the 'n' word for racist purposes, then ban them. A2P speaks da truth.
You just won't let up, will you?

I personally believe that the hurt people feel needs to be negated themselves, we can't move forward as a loving race of human beings if we're constantly walking on eggshells when we mean no harm. Just as I wouldn't call someone a slut for no good reason, or really at all at this point in my life, it's because I feel I should treat others the way I'd like to be treated. I'm not going to go after anyone, but I also don't feel the need to keep my mouth shut because my opinions may hurt someone's feelings.
It's up to them to use their discernment when they hear a word. It's not my fault if society deems a word as harmful or hurtful, but I'm adding to the problem if I make it taboo. I will, however, take responsibility if needed, aka when one's feelings are hurt. And probably tell them that I really don't mean any harm, although I think it's a good idea to begin healing that hurt inside, the ROOT cause, so the next time it comes around, you can rise above it, rather than be made a victim (it's just a word, afterall; it holds no real substance). Sure, it may be in their programming, but that's really not my problem. It's their cross to bear. Which means I'm going to listen to my '*****' music and if any '*****s' are offended then they can just deal with it, lol. I fear NO WORDS. But I also think it's a good idea to be kindhearted. So really, it's all just in the eye of the beholder. All the power to you if you speak like a lady or a gentleman, but don't be deluded by the fears of others in your quest for speaking freely, that is all

There's nothing stopping you from voicing what you want to say. Just remember that it's not just what you say, it's how you say it. There is no need to keep your mouth shut if you have something to say, it just comes down to choosing the right words to get the same point across but in a light you know your audience will be ok with. Especially in the English language, for every word there is probably a million others that mean the same thing but with a slightly different connotation so there should be no excuse for not being able to craft together a sentence with the connotations you would like to imply to your audience.

The point is not getting offended, not having to tailor what you say to your audience, which invariably is going to be something you can't always control, or even KNOW anything about them. You can say things in a lot of different ways, sure, but your overall point, no matter how blunt, can still fracture someone's psyche that hasn't coped with their feelings towards those ideas.
You can say there's no excuse for not using a better word, but who is to really say which is OK and which is not, it's a tossup. It's better if everyone has a mutual understanding, which is what comes with good communication, and in my eyes good communication is no holds barred.
