tl;dr i was planning on staying for a few weeks after AN to hang out with Canadian friends. I couldn't convince border patrol that I wasn't trying to live there illegally, and now they won't even believe me if I say I just want to come for the convention and that's it. I'm $500 in the hole including all investments into this trip (such as my costume) and have been trapped in greyhound with no food for over 24 hours. I just want to go home so I give up.

To explain everything that happened would take 1000 words and no one here cares. Don't think I'm even gonna bother trying for AN 2014 because they have my name and supposed intentions on record. I'll just spend the rest of my life in America, thanks.

If I said that, and they asked to see my return ticket I'd have been screwed. It's entirely my fault that I got denied but it's irreversible now. I said some things I shouldn't have said and they got it all down in their databases. Branded as a lying illegal immigrant for life.

I have a hard time seeing how they wouldn't let you in for visiting friends honestly. Border patrol isn't that unreasonable unless you give them a good enough reason to be.

took me all but 30 seconds to enter detroit. same for houlton maine. both were multi-day trips

I can't say definitively whether or not just saying "Anime North" would've got me in. I'd have to straight-faced lie if they asked me how long I was staying because apparently there are all kinds of things wrong with staying in Canada for as long as I was actually planning. I wouldn't have lied about that either way because I didn't realize it was an issue in the first place.

I'd rather not think of what-ifs though, they just make me even more depressed. I'm already back in Indiana and my trips off.

Why didn't you just not stay as long as you originally planned and leveled with the border officials? Did you need some kind of visa in order to stay longer with a certain amount of money? Either way, shit's too bad...you'll know for next time. I'm sure they won't prevent you from entering the country in the future because of that incident, unless you lied through your teeth a lot lol

I lied once and made it appear like I wanted to stay there permanently illegally (which I didn't). I thought I could fix it by buying a new round trip ticket that would leave only 4 weeks later, but they didn't believe my story and just said $170 would be a small price to pay for me to fake the appearance of returning.

They pretty much treated me like a criminal and said the next time I came back I'd probably be detained. GG.

The fact that I have no bills, and am unemployed means I don't have any ties to the US apparently. Perfect candidate for illegal immigration.

1. You're definitely not the only one crossing to Canada from the U.S. to go to Anime North. So, that reason alone would have worked 100%.
2. Tell them originally how long you were planning on staying for. You really shouldn't lie to them (because everyone knows lying is stupid as fk in this context).
3. I still have no idea how the fk you screwed up so bad.
