The mlp example can be related to for this thread, but the discussion about it is not the point. I just threw it out as a comparison. Discussion about it should be elsewhere, but is not needed because not one person gives a legit reason of why it is popular anyway, so pointless to even bother.

Like others said, right time, right place. Also, it had a simple objective with slowly progressing levels that anyone could do. Effective and creative characters that were cute / badass for all ages. Also who dosen't love destroying the fuck out of things.

couldn't help but say that applies to practically every god damn creation. MLP caught on probably because 2 sad fucks got together, thought "WOW I LIKE THIS SHOW. LET'S SHOW ERRYONE ELSE." No one wanted to feel sad for the guys, so they watched it, and the addictive qualities got to their head. From there they just showed everyone else and it just spread like rabbit children.

or you know, we could go with the more likely case, no one gives a fuck about anything in reality and is just along for the ride most of the time.

anyway, same shit applies to Angry Birds. My friend was playing it today and thinks it's stupid like the rest of us.

MLP is like Pokemon when it comes to why everyone likes it.

It's already been mentioned in the thread. Good/clean looking character design (Regardless of what you find "good).

Good marketing to pump potential viewers with commercials and advertisements all around the networks and Internet.

An interesting alluring universe that's not as different as reality, but follows a similar structure while adding fantasy logic to make it more interesting and appealing.

Nice, fluid, and very expressive animations that don't distract the eye too much.
