Hi all, Staiain and I have started up a section in SM Wiki devoted to playing marathons or courses if that sounds better.

Marathon Project

Basically in addition to playing courses specific to a certain music artist or song titles for instance, you would play through an entire pack either with or without certain modifiers. Staiain and I have already done a couple pretty crazy marathons and want to try getting more people to try some out or even make some up as well.

How we have it set up right now is pretty primitive since you have to manually and laboriously add up all of the data from the scores in your marathon session and input the numbers into a DP calculator. I have no idea how courses work with StepMania or how easy it is to make one, but having a results screen show up describing the summary like this screenshot would be perfect.

Any suggestions/ideas would be awesome, I'm hoping this kind of thing catches on since with the development of the live streaming platform, marathons could add a whole new dimension to the game.

Good idea, but limited amount of players for this level of play and even less when it comes to playing a whole pack in one sitting. What do you want to focus on with this project? Getting as much players as possible or seeing how other top division players does on the marathon? I would probably quit half-way in these marathon packs from being out of stamina.

As I mentioned, the marathons that have already been played are pretty ridiculous so I was hoping for some people to perhaps come up with some. They don't necessarily have to be that intense (could only be ~10 songs or so)

Say a DJ Sharpnel marathon that includes 10 really popular files or a VSnares marathon.

I don't want people assuming they have to play for 2+ hours that would be for the hardcore stepman

I'll try to come up with my own marathons as well, I'm usually creative with these c:s

Haku: It's more of a way to test your consistency and a new way of playing the game, doesn't have to be tiering or hard, this is perfect stream material also, and more people should do that. Interracting with people while you play is a great way to get to know new people and discuss the game etc.

This would be cool, and if done correctly, would be pretty nostalgic as well.

Blue Army, Shihen, Airwave, Dokudenpa, Strangeprogram, Planetz, Linuks, Strawberry Sweets.

Maybe I'll make a course for these right now, shouldn't be too hard, right?

I think the best idea would be to make a stitched together mp3 of the songs included in the marathon and copy-paste the chart in notepad. Only issue would be with getting the gaps right which shouldn't be too hard. That way you wouldn't have to do the tedious work of adding up your score

Wasn't something like that tried before with Linus' BS? If the notepad that came with that file is anything to go by, that is gonna be a pain in the ASS.

Speaking of this, there's a pack I'm working on that I'd like to see someone do a marathon of.

Let's just say it will be a pretty serious endurance challenge... like, vrofl-in-a-day level.
