Default Re: ODIPack3 submissions (it's happening!)

i havn't decided on the what difficulty rating system to use yet. a couple of problems with the nps system is that the files with low nps and therefore very few feet seem supereasy to the player and tends to be completly avoided.

files can also be structured in many different ways to make them challenging and it's pretty common that just the number of nps isn't always a good measuring stick for difficulty rating, and that's where what you call the fudgefactor comes in. imo this would likely have to be applied to adjust almost every single file's difficulty rating, and that makes me feel like the whole point of the system is lost.

another thing is machine score looks gay and is pretty much too inconvenient to care about at all with the nps-rating system, but i think they might have changed how machine system works in sm5 or smth like that anyway? machine score has always been terribly broken but still it remains as a standard for along with what grade you get and how your score looks, giving you an indication of how good your score was, it's of course most relevant for harder files. it's kind of like passer rating in american football lol

but obviously you get a much finer classification system with the nps system since it goes from 1-15 which is cool but i think it can also work as a negative thing and make a lot of the files with lower nps become avoided

i might end up making a thread with a poll on what system to use when we're nearing release.

sick graphics necros!

ok so onto the submission, a SICK batch of submissions this time wow. so many amazing files, you guys are really starting to figure out what kind of files i'm after by now. there's so much diversity in this pack now it's amazing

cyberstorm
accepted

fallen world
fun as fuck holy SHIT yes. all the rolls except for the last lone one should just be made freezes imo, i don't find them challenging in a fun way and they will ruin people's scores on what is otherwise a fantastic file for scoring

insect digestion melancholy
really fucking cool but mines ruin it =(. the steps are supercool and fit the song tremendously well. freezes are used very well and in good moderation and only make it more fun. all patterns are very good and it's fun as hell to play. BUT, when i got to the first mines i was like ok please tell me those are the only mines in the file... and they were not. the file loses all replay-value when it has that much mines to mess up your score with in so many differnt parts. this file is supercool i wanna accept it

let's go
too simple easy and repetetive. some parts are fun and it's keep you interested for a while but then it ends up being too much of the same similar rhythms over and over and the song/file never really mixes it up very much

lost not forgotten
really nice. there are so many different sections of this file and they all have a tremendous flow and keep a nice level of difficulty. really fucking fun but i think there were quite a few spots in the guitar solo where he played faster "bursts" than what you stepped. i also think there were some errors in some parts before the guitar solo where you didn't step all the guitar notes? will be accepted, you're on a roll nick!

Mirage garden
SPECTACULARTWYHEYJETHGJMG. WOW one of the best files in the pack holy shit it's so much fun. accepted as fuc

My so-called life
accepted

oblivion
accepted. still don't like all of the minijacks but it's fine it's a fun file with a good consistent level of difficulty for scoring.

st. alphonzos
ok it's really cool and unique i wanna include it. it's fun and challenging in a pretty unique way but it is too long. the last part after the second last silent-mines part should just be cut out. there's nothing special there and it's similar rhythms to those throughout the rest of the song, even though it's not necessarily badly stepped or too unintresting, it's a question of the file just becoming too long, the way it plays it would be much more enjoyable if this last part was completly taken out.

street lethal guitar solo
haha lol it's obviously pretty bs and you spent little to no time at all on this file. to get all this down accurately would require loooots of work and good ears, you have a long way to go with this one

tranzport
ok good job accepted, it's not all too spectacular but it's a solid file that is challenging and good for scoring, and it does have a few parts that stand out, and even though the rest is mostly 16ths at least the rhythms are mixed up a bit

Alphonzo's: You can use the previously sent version (which is just St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast, not Father O'Blivion)
Did that version get purple because it was a WIP? In that case, it's not a WIP *sweeps floor* (change the mp3-name, I made it a WIP-name)
Otherwise, what should be edited?

Street Lethal: Yeah duh. I'll see if I get bored enough to step it legit :P

P.S: What about the second file in the Alphonzo mail?

As I would say, go ahead and take them mines out. Aint nobody got time for dat. This was a file I started like a year ago and never got around to finishing and submitting. So go right ahead and take em out and did you get my revision for Canon Rock 2?

the WIP was too short. the part i'm talking about where i think the song should be cut was later, it had no arrows and just mines and i thought it was over and then the part that i think should be cut out began.

didn't play the marathon you submitted yet, i still 3 have files or smth like that to play (all marathons -_-)

Ok, that would be greatly appreciated. I think Kommi will help a ton on some of the flowing pattern issues I'm having with Canon Rock (its tough trying to make a good flowing pattern to a song that is very kinda just him playing with the accompaniment in the background. They're together, but its a pain to try and synchronize and layer in correctly without running into issues) >.<

Glad you liked my submissions I can fix up Fallen World in about a minute.

And of top of what you said about Lost Not Forgotten, I'm not sure if I got all of the keyboard notes either. I, however, do think I got many of them.

Working on one more file for this, then once Kommi looks at Canon Rock 2 and finishes his portion on our collab, I'll send those in too, and I'll probably say I'm done on sending files hahaha. I sent quite a few and a lot of them are getting accepted :P

insect digestion melancholy
ok so i by request was going to make changes to this myself and send it back. this is what i did and i sent the .sm. won't do this for many more files, i have too much to do already :P

measure 17, 2 missing 24ths added
measure 19 removed 1 24th
measure 21-23, removed the mines and stepped the dingy-ding sound sound in the beginning. then i wasn't really sure what was going on so i just stepped the quirky sound that was playing mostly constant 16ths, added the bassdrum, the "ding-ding"s, and the snare drums at the end. perhaps it became a bit too hard for you what you had intended?
measure 23 removed the mines and made the 12ths a jack
measure 25 removed the mines and put a trill
measure 27 removed a mine and made the dinga-ding 16ths a jack
measure 28 changed the mines
measure 32 remade, i didn't hear the 32nds so i changed this part. put singles to the percussions, and jumps when the bassdrum or the "ding-ding" sound also hit.
measure 35 changed it to how i hear it (drums and ding-ding)
measure 36 you can tell it's not 2-note gallops here but more notes, on 0.3x it's obvious that it's 4 at a time. had to pull out the 192nds here lol
measure 42 removed mines and extended the freeze a bit
measure 46 removed mines
measure 50 removed mines
measure 51 removed 1 24th
measure 52 i don't hear that 32nd, removed it
measure 53 added missing 16ths
measure 54 added the 24ths going to the sound we were following before, become short 32nds over 24ths lol. also added a 16th and removed mines
measure 55 changed the patterns to minijacks, changed/removed mines
measure 56 changed the 16ths to a 24th trill and rearranged the freeze
measure 59-60 the sound you were having those 64ths too before and in the beginning of measure 60 is playing mostly 16ths here so i added that, and removed mines
measure 61 added 16ths to the same sound and changed the mines not to be instafail mines and instead increase in speed as the sound does

i think it turned out great but please tell me what you think

nth degree
this is obviously pretty fucking great. awesome simfile, did not get boring or annoying at all even though it was over 5 minutes. nice variety and good fun patterns, the mine usage is moderate and good too. accepted

nanairopanda
it's reeally fun and challenging in a great way, holy shit i'm drowning in sweat haha fuck marathons XD. incredibly fun though and it's not too long so that it has to be cut, it managed to keep you entertained throughout. some parts were just sick

measure 8, 1 32nd can be added after the 2nd last 8th
measure 29-310&36-37 some missing piano stuff. i guess you might not be following the piano here but you have it in the measure after in both cases
measure 35 missing piano 16th
measure 36 sounds like there's a sound that could have a few quick ascending color notes right before the measure if u want to
measure 40 the color notes are faster than 24ths but it's fine if you think it gets too hard
measure 42 that first sound starts a bit before this measure, and it's also faster color notes, but it might get stupid. also one 32nd to the guitar missing after it played it's first note
measure 44 don't think the 32nds are correct here either, and i think they begin a bit earlier
measure 45 ok you obviously have that descending reoccuring piano roll as 32nds because it's stupid with faster notes
mesaure 48 but don't have the same similar sound as 24ths now cmon
measure 49-50 wtf that guitar part can be made awesome why the hell is it a 16th trill
measure 55 missing color note spasm at the end if you want to have it
measure 56-58 i think many 16ths aren't there
a bunch of amazingly cool parts. just check so that all color note durations are correct because some feel too slow, but keep taking into consideration if it might become too stupid with faster ones. if you keep them as slower than they are, then be sure to be consistent with that sounds you have as 24ths and 32nds etc, this goes for the entire file.
measure 95 the 24ths begin too early?
measure 97 missing 16ths the piano is playing constant 16ths
bunch of more supercool parts

won't keep going. please go over it thoroughly yourself and resubmit it cuz i feel like you just want me to go over it instead of doing it yourself!!

i will cut the song later today shadow_god
