Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
Go Beyond = Awkward as shit in some places but really fun in others
Shrooms = Fun with a trolly end so idk...didn't have a serious play-through Unconnected = Reaaaally stupid choice for a final round of a tourney using accumulated scores. If there's one way to make the rest of the tourney redundant, it's to make the first 6 rounds piss-easy and then throw in this file last. Case in point, I could be limping into this last round having accumulated 6 goods over the course of the whole tourney and then obliterate someone who took the time and effort to manage 2 goods up until this point. All because of some super-dense bursts? This round isn't fair /10 ps. I'm not complaining because it affects me since I'm pretty decent at these kind of things (jacky stuff), but this file is terrible to score on. There were something like 30 of those mini-walls and if you can't properly hit one of them, you're going to net yourself about 30 goods unless you fluke!! What a stupid way of determining the outcome of the tourney lmao /rant |

I'd like to focus on this point: There was a run where I literally AAA'd everything except for one part where there's a burst and a jumpglut after (it's near the end I think) and I ended up with 8 goods. I am a little disappointed that the final round is like this -- Jamais Vu at least had hard parts everywhere that didn't require weird dense minijacks. |

Also - remember Stinger with its bursts? That's near the same BPM+Patterns as around 450 combo in SMW. Stinger is a 91, shrooms is definitely justified as a 91 comparing it to stinger.

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
It makes me sad that a file like Unconnected is considered FFR material, even if it is only a token. The constant mini quadjack bursts don't represent the song well at all, and are neither fun nor comfortable to play.
Also, seriously, PR in the slow parts needs some work. It feels like you made the file quickly and then didn't playtest or revise it.

I don't really care about the other part of this post because honestly I'm in no mood to deal with anyone at the moment, but I will say that the bolded area made me laugh so hard considering I transcribed the melody prior to charting it, lol

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
Wow - the theme for the final round should be "My Fingers are all falling off". Seemed like these were relentless overall... very few breaks.
Call Upon the Seaponies (EuroSHOOBEDOO Mix): This was really cool! I had trouble playing it at first for some reason, however as I have issues with the "song loads to 98 then stops" really badly this week. Fun file and a solid 57. The Strategy of Emperor: My favorite of the group, this was straightforward and not gimmicky at all. Good song choice, flowed well and just a hint of a challenge in spots. Nice work on this one! Bloody Tears: When I first saw the preview I thought to myself, "This is going to be a nightmare for the rest of D3... and for me!" However, it isn't as challenging as it looked on the replay. Most of the bursty stuff is doable and although it is very fast it doesn't take too much stamina to get through. I like the Castlevania themed songs in general. Go Beyond!! -Jazzy mix-: A finger-destroying nightmare for me. My left hand was trembling beyond belief by the time I got through this relentless death march. I think I dropped about 350 goods. The song is cool but the file lacked much in the way of "breaks" in the vein of Sleep or Makiba. Playing Super Mario World While Taking Mushrooms: I know I am not good enough to really adequately review files that are 90+ but I have never seen anything quite like this in FFR. For me, this might be the hardest song in the game (excluding Death Piano). Maybe it was because I had just endured what felt like 18 minutes of the D4 song and my hands were starting to resemble boiled crabs legs. This was just... crazy/intense/fast/nonstop. Then again, when it gets above 87/88 to me it all starts to function the same. I can't play the D6/D7 song as I don't have access so I'll save my fingers. Overall I always enjoy new releases and thank all the great file authors in this round and the whole tournament. Still, I wonder how many times in a row I can play Mario on Shrooms before I literally had a heart attack, keeled over and died in my chair. |

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
SMW on Shrooms is a very intense stamina file, of which there are relatively few in FFR. Which might be why it's so jarring to you, stamina is a skill that is not heavily emphasized in FFR thusfar and it's something that takes a lot of practice to build endurance. Fingers get tired too!
(hint: JS files on stepmania, Icyworld packs, dragonforce files, etc)

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
dropping by to say some stuff before i go off to get owned by my finance midterm review sesh
smw on shrooms is really great and flows very nicely, will definitely play more whenever i'm bored, feels like a 89 though (minus the end) go beyond is also really, really amazing for many people these files might feel mashy but when you can properly read and hit them, they just feel so nice, especially go beyond's jacks props 2 patashoue unconnected seems like a beefed up version of my dist squad and that's not a good thing ... but it does seem kind of fun in a sadistic way props helogan, good thing u made it a token (now go make dp/rato a token cool) and hopefully u guys didnt hate stinger too much some of the parts didnt turn out the way i envisioned it so im kinda bumed out but thats lyfe pc e |

Hi Anaru.
You saying that it looks like Dist Squad really doesn't bother me because I happen to enjoy the file, almost in the same sadistic manner that you mention for Unconnected., and it's funny because when I started putting in the seven note 48th bursts, I was like "hey, this looks a lot like Dist Squad", haha. |

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
I honestly think SMW is around an 88-87. I started making a thread earlier, but i'm stepping right now, so that's on hold

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
Read my post again; I made no complaints about the way the tournament was scored. My issue was with the horrendous choice for a final round file. The file itself isn't bad at all, it's very fun imo...just not a good choice for the final round is all.

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
D1: very good file
D2: a 64, you sure? plays like a 60-61... D3: might be pick of the week. I love the streams, they remind me of the speed up ones in holy orders. D4: lets just say that i bet d4 is super happy it's raw scoring. plenty of aids patterns in this. quads thrown in, ugh. don't like some of the charting D5: does the initial sound remind anyone else of Keftka's laugh in FF3?

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
If Scintill included a few seconds earlier of his cut, you would've heard rickroll before Kefka's laugh.

Re: Official Tournament Final Round Song Discussion
It is Kefka's laugh lol, there's a whole bunch of random vg shit thrown in that song. The Mega Man Robot Master intro theme is another obvious one, but the full version of the song even turns into Michael Jackson's Thriller at one point, and even includes its own rickroll lmao, plus more that I'm probably forgetting
oh shit I didn't even see bmah's post lol |

It's also got Zelda: A link to the past in there, around 1700 combo I believe.
