I released loli fishing in bunch of files you probably don't have volume 1 so everyone has that file. get with the times dawg

also, I would contribute sets, but marco and I are definitely going to be clashing in opinions purely based on our design styles—him purely based on photo blending and photoshop effects, while me with print design minimalism with strict adherence to typography rules and conventions, as proven by the our past posts. a good example of what I'm talking about is that the dirtwalker set (made by wwplpmpn) is perfectly acceptable by my standards for graphics and typography, but marco thinks otherwise.

I myself question a lot of the type work in marco's sets, but I guess it's mutual because he also questions exactly what I do likewise. all I'll say is that type isn't as easy as hitting the type tool, typing shit out, and hitting enter you know—it needs to be technically treated and you have to know typography inside out like I do.

tl;dr until marco and I can come to some sort of a mutual agreement on not throwing our elitist design subjectivity on how the fuck to do things at each other, I won't help out period.

so glad this pack is getting the mollo graphic treatment, everything looks fuckin grand. hype~

@stargorps yea loli fishing was single released i think 4 years ago haha, i should honestly give it a good edit but since a lot of people already have it from gundam's pack that probably isn't appropriate (and the edit's wouldn't be material enough to merit calling it v2 etc). still, hope u liek it :3

GD, I am for sure not going to criticize the technical aspect of the typographic work you do, nor the use of certain design fonts over others cause i'm sure you know what you're doing. The thing is, i don't think that kind of style is any good for the majority of stepmania music, as it's really plain and it fits more commercial graphic design/advertising than it does on a music game. I work in the same field, although i haven't studied specifically for it therefore my works can be amateurish, but by looking at professional work i'm under the impression that what you say is true only to an extent and in this specific case it does not really fit, or it needs a better execution.

For example, in "the clear blue sky" you used a neat concept for the text, but the end result is quite unpleasant to the eye (imo). Not sure if your typographic skills have been used in there too or it's just an old graphic, but the thing is, i agree we have completely different views on how to make a graphic (pretty much the same happened with arntonach) and given this i'd rather make them all by myself, no hard feelings intended

The Clear Blue Sky is a really old file but revamped, so those graphics are from like 2009—Xiao actually made those for me, I just never bothered replacing it, lol. None of my present day typographic works look anything like that set anyways.

I do in fact realize that SM graphics I make aren't all that fitting, but I mentioned before that I integrated my print design influence on purpose and with reason. I argue that it give players something aesthetically different to look at, which is a nice element of variation and I suppose surprise to some extent. It also enforces more of a professionalism in the sense that each set looks like it could be printed out and still have it look neat, as opposed to the usual SM graphics standard which would actually have more trouble converting to a tangible medium such as paper.

I feel that people that do graphics for this game are too anchored to the floor by the design ideals established from the long history of abstract renders, scanlines, anime, pixelation, poor fake renditions of classic designer typefaces, and more. It's hard to find aesthetic variation nowadays because everyone essentially follows the exact same formula of "HOW TO MAKE PROPER STEPMANIA GRAPHICS". Meanwhile, there aren't many people who experiment and do something completely out of the box from the typical graphically norm(e.g. people I can name off the top of my head: Spitfire, Spenner, wwplpmpn, myself, and a couple others).

I used to be all for the typical, STePMaNia graphics standard before I made the decision to throw it out the window to do something different—I'm the type that can only do something for so long before wanting to try something completely out of the box. That's really the only justification I can give as to why I choose to do print design minimalism over stuff similarly to what you do, which is essentially the long established standard of SM graphics for as long as this game has existed until now.

tl;dr no hard feelings, Marco. I understand where you're coming from, but I'll continue doing my own thing. Maybe I'll contribute and save some work and time if I feel like it.

p.s. eron you're gay

i dunno if it's been overused or anything but i generally use it when the source image sucks and i can't find any way to hide its horrible artifacts.

Just my two cents - That kind of work is definitely appealing, I do a lot of illustration and painting (and frequently commissioned) work. There are a few truths I would like to point out -
1. Professionally illustrated work, typography, etc. is more appropriate in a professional setting due to the fact that it often isn't raster (Like all stepmania graphics) and is often made with printing practicality in mind - the simplicity is also fostered in an environment where aesthetic is valued as much as identity; in stepmania graphics you're less concerned with identity and practicalities and more concerned with aesthetic.

2. And you may claim that the aesthetic in professional settings is still more appealing than average SM graphics - I would agree, to an extent, but I also want to make something that's appealing and I want to make a shoe that fits the foot. Stepmania/DDR is a high energy game, and deserves high energy graphics; I won't dine on fine cheese and sip wines while playing, I'll be pumped and ready to play. Or at the very least, that sort of mentality has existed since the DDR days, and carries on through at least tradition to stepmania.

3. Just briefly touching on the fact that the stepmania graphics (at least the ones I make) are much much easier to make than professional illustration/typography projects, those can take days and days, it wouldn't be practical - it's rude to say that simfiles don't deserve those kinds of graphics, but considering that a lot of my work might be neglected because people aren't downloading this pack for the graphics, and many elect to turn off their backgrounds, it's not something you could easily ask me to do (unless there was a paycheck involved)

But I get you, completely. In my opinion Minimalism is a complex form, and requires an eye to really appreciate - I think most stepmania players would be too focused on the arrows to perhaps truly take that in.

p.s. Necros I didn't know it was you i'm Oriental/Dyst. I don't know if you remember me, it's been a long time, but we talked a bit and I did some of the graphics for SMGPack 2 and ODIPack 2 (maybe a couple others too) - long time no talk

holy--you're Dyst? wow, I remember you from those days. I wasn't exactly a prominent member of the community back in those days, but it's always nice to see old faces around.
