Newtown, Connecticut Elementary School Shooting

So I just recently started reading some of the more recent reports on this. I found this particularly interesting:

"Dr. Carver, the medical examiner, said it appears that all the children were gunned down by the military-style rifle. Authorities said all the weapons were legally owned and registered by Nancy Lanza, the shooter's mother."

They claimed that the police found the rifle in the trunk/back of a car yesterday. So this puts me back to my question of how he got into the school with a rifle. I just feel like there's still a huge piece of this picture missing. They say he "forced" his way into the school, but shouldn't someone have noticed this and notified police immediately? I just, I don't know. Something just still feels very off with these reports and information they're giving.
