I don't call it a philosophy, but there are some things that I would say have a specific enough importance in my life to be called something along the lines of "beliefs" or perhaps "goals":
- I don't try to take anything in my life for granted. Nothing should be a given, and even simply thinking about it is better than being ignorant about it. - I try to find beauty in nature. Might sound a bit cliché, but its hard to find people doing that sometimes. For instance, I went for a run with my dog this afternoon, and went down a path along the river. We came up to a part where the trees formed a canopy over the path, and a breeze swept through, blowing leaves across the path, red, orange, yellow, brown... I had to stop and watch it because it really did strike me as something beautiful, something only nature could come up with. - I have actually made it a goal to swear less. It doesn't get the point across any faster, and makes me sound like a fool. - I try not to make a commitment I can't keep. I (usually) try to think things through first. - I always try to be thankful for where I am in my life. Occasionally I sometimes feel that I am not happy about it, but then I think about how I got here, and remember the people who helped me get here, and it makes me feel better. People actually cared enough about me to help me out, and I am extremely grateful for them. Quote:
Also, I have seen you around a few forums a lot for the past few years, and you seem like a bro, so don't call yourself a loser (I didn't really take it too seriously, but people shouldn't really call themselves one as long as they try to better themselves). How much more school do you have? Quote:
I guess overall I try not to live my life for me. I try to live for the people I love, who care about me. Its them I want to see happy

And when I said "I'm a loser I guess" it was meant more from a random person looking in's point of view and not my own. I'm like I said very thankful to be where I am. I'm not a drug dealer, or a thief so I'm not a "loser" but in an overall social sense, it's what would fit my situation without knowing any particular details. (Which most people wouldn't know.) To the biggest part: Most people here would tell you I'm not a bro, but a cynical ass hole. What I do to fill my spare time right now is game and listen to as much music as I can find. I'm very picky with what I can enjoy musically, but I find that it's a very good way to keep my brain off of other things. But I more often than not am doing an ffr activity be it stepping, chatting with the TB guys, or lurking the forums. The world is immense and the volume of what there is to do, how to act within it, is actually mind boggling. So if I am going to think about stuff fast, I usually jump to that. Though sometimes I go out into the woods by my home with a camera and just kinda relax and take pictures. |

I find that the key in life is pursuing happiness. However, people have very different views of what happiness consists of. Some can go as far as looking for things that ultimately damage them. Anyway, for me happiness lies in small things, and comes from the little everyday pleasures we're so used to have that we don't even notice. Therefore, to have a fulfulling life one has to simply start to see what's around, what you already have... which if you really can understand, is already quite a lot. And if you start looking for the right things, can become even more.
This mindset doesn't sit well with the society of consumism - to be happy you need very few basic things, everything else is usually a surplus and possibly stuff that was forced upon you by the societal structures we live in; neither it does with the widespread opinion that you're worth poportionally to how much you've got... Which can get a bit discouraging when you look at how this way of thinking is inherently rotten and counterproductive. In practical terms, my life goals are to live life in a healthy way, consuming genuine foods, taking care of both body and mind but without being obsessive over it, and instead take occasional pleasure in dwelling into gluttony or vice. The next important thing after loving yourself is being able to love and respect people who deserve it, and being able to create a circle around you with such people who can make your life brighter. Granted, dealing with life has its ups and downs, but one shouldn't be discouraged or saddened by the occasional shit on your way. If your primary goal in life is to be happy and feel good no matter what, you'll quickly get rid of drama and the negative feelings it brings. The last, but not least important is to live as much as possible in a positive and stimulating environment, taking the time to do creative and/or adrenalinic activities.

I have joy following really simplistic goals while working towards my bigger ones. Yeah I like collecting video games, travelling, all those generic things people do as hobbies. Life has never really stopped me from doing what I really want as long as I plan ahead.
Living a healthy life is simple, though habit is tough to follow. I don't try to over-complicate things; it's basically do it or don't. It's as simple as that. If you think too much about it, you'll lose track.

You sound a lot like I did when I was finishing my univeristy degree midnight. Except that I had the added benefit of feeling like a total failure while doing it because I was failing at working hard and/or making a difference/thriving with my studies, values instilled in me by my family who also view me negatively. But even just from a personal standpoint, it's a recipe for mental anguish if you value hardwork when you're disabled (for whatever reason.)
The philosophy that life is pain and then you die isn't all that horrible to me, it's a fact of life for many people currently and especially from the past. One my therapists who was trying to reach me on an existential level tried that philosophy on for size with me. (Well a very similar one.) Some celtic thing? that life is like living in a dark cave with a dragon outside just waiting to eat you and your family and that's it. That view on life then helps grow values that otherwise might'nt crop up, things like honor and loyalty and social hierarchies. And it also doesn't require religion or other imaginative beliefs. Not sure I'm explaining it well, but for instance, current views of 'just have fun' are much easier to adopt when there's about a million things that we have created simply for our entertainment and pleasure that have really only cropped up the past 20 years even. |

Well a couple years I was living a pretty lame and unhealthy life and I wasn't happy with.
I was single Almost failed college No car No Job Basically played video games 16+ hours a day and had literally no social life. I had no goals in life and no future ambitions really. Basically a complete loser. At that point I really "thought" I was happy with the way that it was. Then one day January 26th 2010, I stepped on a scale since I graduated High School (2008) I weighed 246 pounds. I was in complete shock because I didn't think I gained that much weight and I was 178 in High School. This literally changed my life and I broke into tears when I saw that. I couldn't believe I let myself go like that. Going from being a top student in High School then to throw everything away and end where I was. So I came up with very minor goals like graduate college. Then to lose weight and so on. Eventually I met a girl at a LAN center of all places >_> and I got a job 2 weeks after. Basically after all of these events, the way I aim for a healthy life, is I want to be happy. What I stated above made me change my outlook on life and I am actually way happier than I ever been. I have so many goals that I want to achieve and I slowly working towards those goals. My main goal as of now is to open up a LAN center here in town after I pay off my loans (The other LAN center closed down due to really bad marketing and promotions) But I just want to be happy and that is my goal to a healthy life tl:dr I was fat, had a reality check and happiness is my way to have a healthy life. |
