I've never purchased a true expansion, since I don't count the DLC I listed as an expansion because it didn't extend the original, so I wouldn't have an accurate opinion on them.

DLC can help keep the cost down on games. If the companies include the DLC into the game in certain cases, it would almost like be selling 2 games. Then they wouldn't be able to afford what it had cost to make it. (i.e. no profit at all) unless they priced it ridiculously high, which would turn certain gamers away.
sometimes DLC is good. The Dragon Quest VC (not sure what it stands for) in Dragon Quest 9 was a really good idea. It's a shop that pumped out quests and armor periodically, rather than all at the same time. That way the game would stay funner for a longer time. Also, it updated a shop with a weekly theme. So if you were collecting items it would make your life a hell of a lot easier, because some of the items in there were really rare drops. |

That's what kills me about it, really. The series was so good, and Kingdom Hearts' insane (and, imo, mostly undeserved) popularity pretty much killed it.

all I play is D3 and Rift
D3, all issues aside, is a decent action RPG and the raid encounters in Rift are, by far, the most fun I've ever had in a video game

Those would be my top 3 recommendations. Also, Professor Layton is essential if you want a fun puzzle game and Ace Attorney is just excellent.

pretentious indie developers are getting the hipster gamers' attention, most game companies cater to the dumb **** crowd who will eat up any pile of garbage they produce, and then there are a few actual gamers who find good games here and there but are gems that nobody's ever heard of now.
having said that, i'm going back to play nazo puyo now.

I think the Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death 7 games were pretty fun. Like playing old school snes rpgs but with more humor thrown in.

Do we really need any video games haha
all personal preference, but So much hate on multiplayer. REGARDLESS of the intention of the publisher, if i find a game fun i'll play it. Everyone tries to be so different and fresh by shunning certain aspects of games like multiplayer, limiting their overall potential of having fun no fun

don't get me wrong though. I enjoy me some multiplayer, particularly of the local variety. there's nothing quite like throwing down in Smash Bros, NHL, Halo, or whatever and smack talking your compadres face-to-face. |

The gaming industry is a joke. I don't even bother with it anymore. Haven't for a very long time, besides the super smash brothers sequels. Brawl was a joke too though. Even nintendo falls under the trend of, having lost sight of what makes something like a simple mario game, fun. There is wayyy too much concern for the aesthetic appeals of these games and they are likewise portrayed as " fun", when they should've just focused on the technicality and difficulty like they used to. The moment I played super mario bros wii, I hated it. Floaty, focuses on bullshit, geared towards children. Super mario bros 3 is geared toward all ages and not going to be beaten nearly as easily. I resort to independently made games not for any specific console like super meat boy to get the gaming experience that makes a video game genuinely great.

I think the only genre that's "safe" would be JRPGs, and even then, Zaghurim can probably post some super bad ones.

Haven't messed with the multiplayer so I can't really say I know what it's like. I just hate how the laws of gravity have changed so much that I instantly know what to expect from the game because of it's childish physics engine.

the physics are floatier, but level design can still provide the same amount of challenge. not that it does in this case... the difficulty is more in exploration and finding secrets. still, though, I think you can find some modern games that are tough as nails. just gotta know where to look.
multiplayer in new super mario bros wii is amazing. it's equal parts fun and rage. exactly what pines said. EDIT GameSpot News Headlines --- Ico, Shadow of the Colossus producer leaves Sony fml. Last edited by dAnceguy117; 08-28-2012 at 12:36 AM.. |

shit I've been hearing how good SotC has been for years. I wonder if Sony will be the same giant in the gaming industry it has been for a while now. |
