Default Helios - Moiety (2012)

http://unseen-music.com/free/

If you enjoy ambient music, you'll love this. Didn't know that Helios had a new album out until I googled him on a whim. This feels a lot more distant compared to, say, Ayres or Eingya. Percussion is non-existent in this release, which isn't a bad thing at all.

one of the problems i had with eingya was that it was a bit too saccharine. although it definitely was pretty, the folk/post-rock influences kinda turned me off towards the end. imo his side-project goldmund does a better job of exploring those themes. i still think unomia is my favorite album from him

hope his new cd is really good, gonna listen to it later

Ambient is a pretty ambiguous term. A lot of downtempo stuff could also be considered ambient music.

From the album wwpl mentioned

wwpl, it's probably too late but if you thought Eingya was saccharine, you probably won't like Moiety too much lol.

A really cool ambient track by Symbion Project (literally my favorite artist)

i dont really have fav artists (changes all the time), but here is one of my fav ambient track

a masterful, timeless classic from '84, still sound fresh, and among some of the most beautiful thing i have heard

u really shouldn't pass helios up, his stuff is top-notch, one of the most well-known and well-established artists in this field. when you introduce someone to ambient music, usually you give him/her a helios record

I never heard of Steve Roach until Spenner posted "Darkest Before Dawn" in that Rate The Song Above You thread I made in Chit Chat. Instantly grabbed me, I'd liken him to the Thomas Koner of space ambient.

I say that Symbion Project is my favorite artist because he's literally the main reason I started listening to electronic music in general, having heard of him originally from FreQuency. I've bought every one of his albums, I chat with him on a regular basis through email, my name's even in the special thanks section on Contrapasso rofl.

But yeah, ambient/downtempo/chillout are all great genres because they're much more accessible and memorable than, say, electro or trance. If I was introducing someone to electronic music outside of the dance-able genres, it'd be downtempo. Stuff like Tryshashla, Eingya, Immortal Game, Mend, etc.

I used to listen to Venetian Snares in high school and my friends would say stuff like, "choof ya ipod's broke"
