DDR World Record Attempt!
Starting tomorrow (Saturday, April 28th) at 6pm, my friend and I will attempt to set the world record for "Longest time spent playing a rhythm / dance game." We are aiming to go for at least 24 hours.
The main goal of the event is to attempt to raise money for our friend (nicknamed Dac). He has been diagnosed with a type of leukemia and is in need of a bone marrow transfer. All the money that we raise during the event will be sent directly to the David A. Croach Leukemia Fund (more information at www.1upfordac.com (or oneupfordac, both go to the same page). The event will be on a live-stream at http://www.justin.tv/ddr4dac. We'll try to make this as entertaining to watch as we can. We'll answer questions, chat, take requests, or do whatever we can to get our view count up and try to raise more money to help our friend. ----- I know, I should have posted this earlier, but I procrastinated ._. . If this needs to be moved, could a mod move it? Also, would it be possible to get this stickied for the duration of the event? If anyone has any questions, feel free to post here or on our Facebook event page - http://www.facebook.com/events/303901543013597/. |

Re: DDR World Record Attempt!
I like this idea a lot! A few suggestions:
-Pick the least difficult file present for a given song (you'll want to change up the song every so often to keep your mind engaged). Pacing is HUGE. -Keep refreshments handy, both liquid and solid. I don't know how these people determine when to stop the clock, so the less time you can spend recharging your batteries the better. -If you've already cleared this attempt with the proper higher-ups (the arcade owner or Student Life representative, for example), see if you can't milk this relationship and get them to match donations to a certain amount. All this may seem like common sense or stuff you've already thought of, but I just thought I'd throw this up here as a reminder if nothing else. |

Re: DDR World Record Attempt!
The official record is around 20hrs 25mins. There was debate about somebody having the record at 40hrs, but the time was scrapped for some reason. I don't know the details.
No, it doesn't HAVE to be 24hrs straight, but that's what we're going for. We're allotted a five minute break every hour (breaks can be accumulated and used en masse), and have twenty seconds after a song ends to pick our next song. We've been in contact with Guinness very frequently in the past week and a half, so we do know all these minor yet important details. :P |

DDR, or a less physically-involving rhythm game, for 72 hours straight? (Also how did you handle restroom breaks? 5 minute breaks allowed every now and then?)
Also more importantly, why did you do it? |

Re: DDR World Record Attempt!
Why did we do it? I honestly don't know, heh. My friend somehow came across the record and tossed the idea at me. At first, we kinda debated it, but in a couple of weeks we settled in on doing it. It did take us a while to set the date for it =P

Re: DDR World Record Attempt!
Oh not you. I meant why did Reincarnate do the 72 hour thing. Obviously you're doing it to raise money for a medical operation for your friend.
And I wish you all the luck in that. What good friends he must have who would raise money to help him in a time of need! |

Here's the link for the actual record: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/...e-rhythm-game/
Reincarnate, I have little doubt that you've played that much over a three day weekend, but have you kept it within the guidelines that we have? We have 20 seconds to pick our next song and only get a 5 minute break every hour. |

Re: DDR World Record Attempt!
The last hour of the event has to be uninterrupted.
Example - At hour 19, you take a 30 minute break, then come back and play for 45 minutes and end the event. The last hour of the event was 15 minutes of break and 45 minutes of play. The event ended illegitimately in that scenario. Last edited by masterhickle; 04-27-2012 at 11:35 PM.. |

Re: DDR World Record Attempt!
Going to give this one more try - Would it be possible to get this thread stickied for the duration of the event?
------ My friend and I have a little competition going on to keep us going through this. We're going to have a tally on the stream feed of how many songs each of us has won. We're just looking for something to wager, but we don't know what. What do you all have in mind? Try to keep it PG-13. =P I should add this note - We have to start on the lowest possible difficulty and increase the difficulty every 5 hours. 0:00:00 - 4:59:59 -- Beginner 5:00:00 - 9:59:59 -- Light 10:00:00 - 14:59:59 -- Standard 15:00:00 - Completion -- Heavy Please bear with us with the first 10 hours of the event. We'll do what we can to make it interesting to watch. :P |
