Lightbulb Windows 7/Switchable Graphics Lag Fix

I experienced a tremendous amount of lag while trying to play FFR. Here's how I went about fixing it:

Note that I've set my computer settings for 'best performance' as noted in many of the posts here prior to all of this. I have Windows 7 on a laptop with switchable graphics. Also, I am sure to uncheck "Enable Hardware Acceleration" each time I try to play.

I started by systematically testing older (and the current) versions of adobe's standalone flash player: 9, 10 and 11. I tried every version of the game on each one, and was faced with lag every time. This was all with gamebooster turned on, the Windows Classic theme, and no other applications running. My laptop also has two GPUs, and I was running the 'better' one for all of this.

Running the game in-browser lagged as well. Windows Classic, every version of the game would be pretty well unplayable. This was done with Chrome and IE.

I had tried switching GPUs once or twice during this process to no avail, but...

The key solution came from downloading flash 8, the macromedia standalone player, and also switching to my integrated GPU. Note that I haven't done an entirely exhaustive test of whether using the integrated GPU or it being the different flash player fixed the problem. All I know is that a combination of Windows Classic + gamebooster + macromedia 8 standalone + integrated GPU + setting priority of said flash player to high + velocity wide link to FFR = virtually no lag.

It honestly seems like it was a lot of work to make a fairly simple game not lag...if anyone has any insight into why this may have solved the problem, feel free to explain. I am suspecting the higher-end GPU may be overkill for the simplicity of the game and because of the lack of vsync in FFR (as far as I am aware) which caps the frame rate, it might be causing screen tears or general jumpiness.

I haven't really tested the other engines/links with this method, but hopefully I can pinpoint what specific change to my computer helped eliminate the lag. Right now, it just looks like everything (with suspicion toward the GPUs), but maybe it can be narrowed down after a bit more testing.

Hopefully this helps someone out there experiencing similar lag.

By the way, link to Macromedia 8 standalone in case you want to try it (I couldn't find the post on the forums where I got the link from, so here it is, courtesy of I believe psychoangel691):
