What browser do you use? If cookies are disabled, it won't save the settings.
For Firefox, go into Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> "Use Custom Settings for history" -> check 'Accept cookies'. I'm not sure how to do this on IE or Chrome, but Google should help with those browsers. If that doesn't fix it, try using the Velocity Engine and see if it works there. n.n Edit - Also, do you click "Set Speed" after adding in the speed? Also, welcome back! :3
