Hey people I want to play Stepmania with a dance pad and don't know how to go about this. What is the best mat so far and I know some mat's come with a usb that you hook up to the computer and that's all you do? Do you need some sort of program to read that usb? What is the step by step please. I know i'm a noob but thanks for the help.

1. Don't know about dance mats that much, but I heard people saying cobalt flux being pretty good.
2. If the pad has a usb connector, just hook it up to the computer. The computer will automatically recognize the dance mat. (If the mat lacks a usb connector, then get a X to usb converter and connect to usb port. If you haven't bought the pad yet, try to buy a one that has a usb connector.) 3. Go to "Options -> Config Key/Joy Mappings" on stepmania and map the dance mat panels the same way you would setup your keyboard keys. 4. Play stepmania and wreck pad files until the pad wears out

If you got a USB dance pad it's just a simple plug, config, and play. Otherwise, you'd likely have to download extra drivers and programs for the computer to read the controller properly.
Also, usually hard pads are the best if you're will to cash in some money for them. Flux is usually most recommended but nowadays people are talking about other pads too.

I have a CF, it plugs in directly to USB, so as stated before, you just have to assign the keys in options, whether it be SM, or OpenITG.
But I guess they don't make them anymore. Good thing I got mine last year. Their website isn't working or anything so yes, I assume they are out of business. Your best bet is to look on ebay or amazon. Or you can buy other metal pads from here: http://www.ddrgame.com/ddrmetalpad.html

So if i buy a DDR Pad that says it's compatible with PS1, PS2,Xbox and the PC, could I just plug that PC usb cord into my computer and then open stepmania and go to joy/mappings and set the arrows from there? It will be dumb if it says compatible with the PC and it's not plug n play.
