and the fact that people aren't fighting over Night Walker is a bit surprising to me too.
AJ, the reason why faster songs can sometimes be easier is because it provides less of an opportunity to split arrows and jumps. Speed can make a pattern harder, but overall you'll see a reduction in what many will say are "random goods" but are most likely split goods.

I found Amen Iraq quite fun, although I did have to say - I was a little intimidated by the pattern flow in my first run. It's a bit choppy, but it adds a nice technicality factor with a rigid flow - it's very easy to botch up any of the bursts (or that nasty little string of 12th-ish jumps.)

EDIT: bmah: I do understand this, yeah - the only difference is, this file has a ton of jumps that aren't [12][34], in pretty hectic jumpstreams; not to mention there's even a few occasional mini-jacks and such too.

It definitely has a less forced flow than Ambient Angels, but it's not a super light flow either.

You'd laugh at how much I split jumps on slower files, it's ridiculous

The jumpstream isn't long enough for the speed to be a significant factor imo

Fair enough.

In any event, the difficulty issue(s) should hopefully be resolved at the end of this round and we'll have a steady upward climb from there (with the exception of D6 because subjectivemanias and who's good at certain things - we hope it's pushing upward constantly, though).

D5 song felt a little easier than D4 on my first tries on each. Meh.

Also I agree 0 is MUCH easier than Ambient Angels, because AA is just constant density. Fast but tricky patterns are much easier to hit than constant jumpstream, because it's just bursty instead of "omfg my arms are dieing from this 10 second super-long jumpstream"

Difficulty spikes > constant difficulty. I've said this before, and I'm not going to be surprised one bit if D3 turns into an AAA-fest.

The patterns in Night Walker aren't *that* awkward and the it flows a hell of a lot more easily than elegante. The difficulty seems about right, if anything it's easier than the Round 2 song.

@ remedy:

YEAH YOU WERE

Seriously, at any given point of time while playing FFR, I had my tournament situation mapped out in my head ten different times. At least two out of those ten different scenarios had me eliminated at round two because I can't for the life of me handle split rolls. How the hell I AAA'd Kono spoon, I'll never know - I most certainly won't be doing that again anytime in the near future.

Default Re: 6th Official FFR Tournament - Round 3 has started!

sad faces, this round is fun!

This might be the easiest round for D5 and D6 yet, but for the rest, you guys have some fun tricky songs. Also, it's the first round where I love ALL the songs.

D1 song is really cool for it's difficulty, I never figured out what the white notes go to but the syncopation is very cool and keeps you on your toes, because it never went to the beat I thought it would, very cool file.

D2 file by JX is a lot of fun and felt quite fast, very tricky for an 8. There were some icky parts in there though I can't remember where but I'm sure it will give the D2 players quite some trouble, but I really like the file

D3, can't go wrong with SSH. Song is good file is really fun, but mainly because I'm a triplet ***. The 24th streams though caught me off guard and though sightread, will be playing again. Seems quite challenging compared to the previous song.

D4. You guys keep getting shafted this whole tourney. 2nd hardest song this round by far. Songs way trickier that 0. Those roll walls caught me off guard and the inverse at the end was tricky. Lots of rolls and plenty of mini jacks, if Velocity was hard this file will be REALLY tough on you guys. Had to play it quite a few times to AAA. Sabrepulse is always good and the song is sick.

D5. This file is NOT an FMO. No subjective manias here, it's just not. It's barely harder than Versatile and definitely not as hard as Ambient Angels. It's a little faster but the streams are much less abusive and has plenty of breaks. The stream patterns are clean and there are less mini jacks than in Finder. The 64ths can all be cleanly jumped as well. It's a fun file, reminds me of a faster Piano X Forte, but not as fun. Songs nice too.

D6: Really pissed I'm out this round, mainly because this song is right up my alley. I don't doubt I could have a AAA within the week. All my goods are pulled at those jump gluts, which are a nightmare, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as Spoon. Either way, it's Flashbulb, I love drum and bass, and this is no exception. The files really fun, typical drum and bass file, but hey, I love it so not complaining, the jump gluts are mean and the second one with all the jacks is kinda stupid though. If I figured that out or iso it I'm sure I'd have a AAA. Oh well, better try next year.

Favorite round by far! Good luck everyone still in the tourney, and sorry D4, you guys are just unlucky this year.

D5: PICK A ****ING TIME SIGNATURE AND STICK WITH IT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

I absolutely hated the song and absolutely hated the file even more, it's going to be like pulling teeth for this AAA. Once I get past my required 5-10 flags on this FMO, I'll AAA it.

EDIT: AAA, still hate it and will never play it again.

Oh- about faster songs being easier to PA, sometimes this is because of FFR's framer irregularities. Songs near the cutoff of perfect framer conversions are naturally easier to PA- for example I'd bet any time that a standard 217 BPM stream file would be harder to PA than a 225 BPM stream file on FFR, just because of how weird the framers can get.

Let the rest of the community have their say before outright saying a file isn't a difficulty. We were sitting on the borderline of 10/11 for all three of the files.

We had Ambient Angels as a 10/11 because of that final jumpstream, but we left it as a 10. The community overall seemed to agree with that.

We had Romance in the Club as an 11, but we weren't sure about that rating to begin with, simply because all of the bursts were fairly tame and simple to handle, albeit the one single burst with a short 24th trill. We left it as an 11, and the community didn't argue too much.

0 (piano version) was another jumpstream heavy file that overall had a bit more technicality within the pattern choice, not to mention it packs at least 15 more BPM (possibly more, I'm only assuming that it's 180 BPM?) and carries the density of a song like 4 Chord Touhou at the peak (which is a pretty solid 11, if you ask me). Granted, the density isn't that high the entire time, but it's certainly not a light flowing chart either. We both were unsure where to place this, and after using Ambient Angels, we didn't want to have a second jumpstream-oriented file immediately after it. Couple that with the situation of having Romance in the Club, a very short but deceivingly tricky FMO that we were unsure about, and we have a situation where nothing seems to work out properly. Fortunately, the difficulty should pan out a bit better once we start progressing.
