I Have a Question about why people cheat and how.

Ive been playing FFR for a while, like 10 months. And im still yet to get on the high score board even though i get close. I was wondering if people actually have a cheating program on their computer. That slows down the arrows and what not. Do these people get on the high score list and do they stay there. And what is the point of cheating when u actually cant enjoy the game? Please reply. I was wondering if there is a way to some how filter the score board list so that no one who cheats can get on it or stay on it. If u agree reply to this post and respond. Later

some people have slow computers, which will lag, and make the arrows slower; but some hack the system, and change the message that gets sent back to the servers, so their scores are 5000000 higher than they should be

well actually, slow computers make you miss the arrows not make it slower. Lag is a major hindurance (did I spell that right?) and if you dont believe me, try having two flash flah windows up, one in chat and one in the game. That is, unless you have a computer that's fast enough to handle both. In that case, just open as many active programs as possibl, and watch how much it lags. You'll screw up terribly, and probably not even make it through the harder songs.

You sound like you speak from experience.. Why don't you give it a try and alter the score that get sent back to the server? There are many checks in place that stop this and may even automatically delete accounts if tried in certain ways. Nothing is ever 100% foolproof.

Anyone interested in stepping up to the plate and PM'ing me if they have done this successfully in the past 2 months? I may even send you something for free if you bring up a valid exploit. My goal is to make it as secure as possible without affecting game play.

Synth...makaveli doesn't hack or know how to at all. (Edit: no offense)

In theory, if you knew the right information about the game and the client-server messages sent I would think that it wouldn't be too hard to make your own program that sent data back that would seem reasonable but actually not be. I would htink that the checks would only cover impossibly high scores (which they actually don't since people have such scores) and would include something extra to make sure that the game itself is what is sending the info, not some random program. This is probably why the actual .swf is not directly downloadable, is hidden in all the client side HTML (presumably with a server script) and is otherwise not readily accessible.

If I were to hack the game (which I can't and wouldn't except to only see if I could but again, I can't becuase I don't know how nor have the ability to make or find the tools) I would probably just moniter outgoing messages and try to find patterns until I would think I had a good idea of what the game does and expects to recieve. Not that it matters much, because synth does this for a living and since I am only using what I know (which, about hacking, is limited) I highly doubt I could ever hack this.

I suppose it would be the most simple (though by no means eeasiest) to just hack the server and put your name and score into the high score list, thus bypassing any in-game security.

Not true at all. The comp in the "wannabe" office is a fagintosh and when I 'attempt' to play FFR in it, the arrows go really slow...causing me to get a REALLY REALLY high score. But for somereason I cant figure out why I cant sign - in on that one...Eh oh well.

How do u guys get such high scores...jeez!

I play on a really slow ass comp from time to time (300 mghtz)..and trust me, even on the lowest quality setting, the arrows dont slow down..they just jump, so instead of scrolling, the arrows only update once every 1/2 second or worse...on easy songs tho, it works well enough, to where I can get a high score...and arrows slowing down wouldnt help me at all, because then they'd get really off sync to the music and would speed up and slow down (thats what Im assuming at least).

*edit - on the issue of hacking..I think the most simple feature that could be added would to have a check run on all the #1 scores on all the songs, and then compare them to the maximum points available for that song..if the score is > maximum score, have it automatically be deleted. That would at least keep the scoreboards cleaner..cleaner though, not clean.

I have discussed this with Synthlight before. Through our research, and tests that Synthlight asked me to run, I can confirm that it is completely impossible to hack the game through any address/value manipulation programs, no matter how good you are at them. (Which if I do say so myself, I am quite skilled with value manipulation.) I believe that it is much more complicated than anyone thinks. If Synthlight cannot figure it out directly, It has to be difficult. Whatever it is, It has to do with serverside editing. I believe that there are actually .swf programs made for flash program code that are used to do these things. However the unexpliccable part is, FFR scores are completely serverside. .swf programs could only be clientside.

That's All I know, and can say.
