Setup DCMK superior to smth like ASKL?
Hi all,
After watching some vids on youtube, I found some interesting setups. Well, I'm trying to remap my muscle memory to DCMK instead of CV ./ The difference between the two I found is that DCMK is more comfortable for drills and for me personally jumps as well. Do you guys think a setup like DCMK would be superior to ASKL or is it just a matter of getting use to it? Let me know if you using a setup like that, and what you found superior to a standard spread setup like ASKL! |

Any setup takes time getting used to and it's completely up to the player to decide which setup is more optimal for gameplay. My setup is zx75 (numpad 7 and numpad 5), which I find really really comfortable for myself, but uncomfortable to others. I've tried other keysetups but they constantly prove to be awkward and difficult to manage.

For me personally numpad 7 and 5 would be very uncomformtable..I tried. I'm trying WDKO right now, but my PA sucks very hard now. |

That's alright! Just keep playing and your PA will surely improve! Whichever keysetup that you end up using, make sure that it's comfortable for yourself. Good luck

QWOP. It's on far ends of the keyboard, isn't close together, which Herogashix keeps saying is horribad for my speed, but I think is perfect for me.
So that is a perfect example that play styles are completely up to you to decide which is better. Experiment. That's the only way to know. |

Use SDKL. Works great.

I used to use SDJK. Then I switched to ASKL. Then to ZX./ and then finally to QWOP, where I am now. This was all in the span of a few months; I originally played one-handed 1X for the first 3 years.

I AAA'd Balloon Fever with Q H M ] index/pinky, so anything's possible. No setup is "superior"

Well I guess it's all about practice your individual setup and master it! Thanks all for sharing, I'll keep trying different setups and eventually master one. ^.^ |

A lot of it depends on how your keyboard is angled and where on the table you want the base of your hands to rest.
Just keep trying until you find the most ergonomic setup for you- which might not necessarily be the best for anyone else.

Hybrid while harder to learn, can profit for the index charts like Over The Frail Dream and such in the long run. Really as long as you're doing a two fingers per hand setup you'll be fine.
Though for the purposes of helping hand stamina (At least I find this useful) Learning Index or One Handed on both hands helps me out a bit. I don't know how much that will help anyone else though. |

Re: Setup DCMK superior to smth like ASKL?
yeah I use WDKO, that kinda setup (I used to use QSLP but my keyboard didn't register all 4 keys at the same time sooo) and I'm at my AAAing 10s stage
I prefer it to the straight-up spread formations like ASKL, also somebody told me it's more ergonomically correct. |

Thanks guys for sharing your own experience.
I've been here quite awhile, and i'm a decent player...decent! I think switching setups does have benefits indeed. But I seem to be stuck on Master difficulty and not getting any progress for like ehm 2 months now? And also indeed what hi19hi19 said finding the most ergonomic setup would be my best option for now. |

Also I found switching from CV./ to WDKO not that hard. I started with this setup today and I have the same speed as cv./ but PA ...sucks ...for now! When i try my old setup CV./ I fail big time already lol |

Re: Setup DCMK superior to smth like ASKL?
It's also an issue with your specific keyboard's architecture. A phenomenon called "ghosting" happens when you press a certain combination of keys, but the computer doesn't process all of them due to how the keyboard tells the computer that a certain key was pressed. Even the "gaming" models only have anti-ghosting technology for certain groups of keys, WASD being the most frequent example.
Generally, the two criteria for finding a key setup that works for you are that it's comfortable and you can hit all four at once if you need to. (With hands and quads becoming more frequent in higher-difficulty files these days, this is actually very important.) |

Re: Setup DCMK superior to smth like ASKL?
Call this completely wrong but this is how I put things on my perspective of course through playing solo and singles and shit.
Normally some speed players normally tend to keep their key set up upon the bottom row normally around the xc./ which people like Samurai use. I tend when focusing on my timing on my bulkier keyboard to user the upper rows. When playing more dumpy charts maybe lets say shit loads of jumps or jumpstream normally I set the keyconfig right next to each other. Lets say Of course you Need and NEED me has alot of jumps I normally used the m,./ set up for it. Currently however i use sd45 in all honesty while it isn't that great for speed purposes it does well on the timing that I am mainly trying to utilize anyway. This is just stuff i am throwing in
