Try finding a comfortable speed to play on, and start to play the easiest songs and try AAA'ing them and gain experience from that

Good advice from Staiain. I find that playing a lot of easy AAA songs to death improves PA in both the short game and the long run.

A-yup.
You look to be pretty fast though I haven't watched the replay. Really, just whore a lot and then PA should take care of itself. Play SM too.

One word: Practice.
You have to be really dedicated to improving if you want to AAA songs. |

Play Stepmania. Play things until you can AA them, then play harder things. Refine until you can AA. Harder things. Refine until AA. Etc... Eventually, you go back to an easy song and it's a joke. You AAA it and laugh. "Practicing AAA'ing things" does not get you much better at the game when it's the highest score... it's simply trying to use what skill you currently have to achieve a slightly better result than what you've been getting. Timing is developed through having a demanding timing window and with practice.
On Stepmania, the timing windows are more strict than on FFR, and you can make them even more strict by altering the Judge difficulty in the options. But in summary: It is better to improve to the skill required to decimate every challenge you intend to overtake than to try to AAA every one before moving on to the next. It's just slower, ineffective, and frustrating. The idea: Way back in the day, I'd play on stepmaniaonline with BlueMystik sometimes. I loved AAAA'ing / near AAAA'ing less difficult songs when they'd be picked, and thought it made me more unique and was a strength in my play. BlueMystik wasn't quite as accurate in timing, but he could easily AAA other things I could barely AA. He is the better player with more flexibility. All he had to do to AAAA the things I did is play alot on a tougher judge. I'd have to actually get faster to match him, and I'd been so used to the skill level I was at, practically addicted to not genuinely improving. You see? So if you're going to waste a lot of time on this, get ridiculously fast on Stepmania with either the Default Judge window or a more strict one. Here are packs: http://houkouonchi.net:8080/packs/ Keyboard Megapack is good and there are definitely many other good ones. KBMP2 (which I put out when I was stupid and inexperienced in life in general) is interesting, because it's got some of the better files that were around at the time, but I threw in all this garbage that I made and some other stepfiles that are just genuinely awful. I wouldn't recommend it. Many other packs have taken the good files from this and mixed them with others. The other megapacks 'n' keyboard collabs and whatnot are generally good, and I'd recommend those. Lastly, I can't think of a bad Toph file or Zaghurim file, so if you see either of their names, odds are it's good even if the song itself sucks. Well, there you go. Hope I didn't overload you with information you aren't looking for, but at any rate you've got lots of time to waste. Enjoy. Last edited by Skeleton-GotW; 05-19-2011 at 05:42 PM.. |

Do not rush. Make your learning progressive or else you will suffer and I'm not joking. Sure it'll take a while longer but hey, now I wish I had taken things more slowly. I reached an extremely high level of skills in no time and it isn't worth it.
You're free to get better, just do it intelligently ![]() /2 cents |
