I am honestly extremely pissed about these results. I can't vote, and I am glad to see the NDP rising, however I can't stand how people keep voting Conservative even though Harper's been ****ing up so much.

This is ridiculous.

From the university students friends that I asked, the majority (myself included) voted NDP, yet Conservatives dominated ontario. My reasoning for NDP was simply that I did not want Harper to win because he's basically driven the cost of living high to the point that my parents are forced to move out of Toronto, and into their other home in Wasaga beach.

So I looked at one of the official polls on the eve of election, saw NDP had ~31% preference and went for the NDP. Sad to say that it didn't work out, but oh well.

I found it interesting when CBC showed the student version of the election, the U-18 people whos votes don't count. It was in the neighbourhood of 500,000 students that voted, across Canada, and the screenshot I took resembles a pretty accurate margin of what's happening:

It's interesting that they saw this happening before it happened; and that the conservatives had a much smaller lead.

cost of living is stupidly expensive and I don't see it changing anytime soon, even if ndp/liberals form a coalition. I can barely afford electricity because it's so expensive. I'm starting to think the hydro quebec deal with new-brunswick wasn't such a bad idea.

Hydro is totally provincial matter over there too right? Why blame Harper (I'm only assuming you're inferring it) for shit out of his control?

I've heard a lot of Harper bashing over the past few months but I've never even heard somebody bring up any point other than rising tuition costs which as far as I know are another provincial issue, and the NDP has been raising it in Nova Scotia IIRC. Can somebody please tell me why Harper is so bad because at this point it's just looking like a bandwagon to me =/. He isn't perfect, I completely disagree with spending money on fighter jets

And how did he do this? I'd be pointing the finger at Dalton if I were you.

how? he's letting the cost go up without giving any sort of financial relief to the middle class.

power in new-brunswick going up is mostly because of pointe lepreau, our nuclear reactor that's needed renovations for a long ass time. meanwhile, we have to buy power from other provinces/states. federal government refuses to help finance the plant therefore cost keeps going up. the hydro quebec deal was provincial, but the fact that the cost of living is going up can easily blamed on the conservatives and their lack of funding for several crown corporations.

it's just money misplaced. those fighter jets could pay for a shitload of roads in quebec that are literally falling apart.

There isn't enough money to go around to fund every single project at once. In Ontario Hydro is so high because of our provincial government's laughable green energy plan which is requiring a ridiculous amount of money to fund, not to mention they're pretty much just working with the hydro company because they're a (possibly the) top contribute to their party's campaign funding.

I don't see Harper's government not spending money on provincial issues being a big deal. Maybe he should, I don't really know anything about that issue but I doubt any of the other parties would do anything about it. Googled it and it doesn't seem to be in any parties plans.

Also I completely agree that spending that money on fighter jets is stupid, never said they were terrific, but they're fairly good IMO (for politicians).

What I hate is how so many take the word "Socialism" and make it like a hell-hole of a thing.

Hey, Jesus was a socialist.

They were telling us about how so many people in Alberta are rubbing boners for Conservatives, and my grandmother even said that when her sister had phoned to chat the week before, she had told her not to vote for "that socialist" and instead vote for Harper. I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
I know how you feel. I know people that throw around the word 'socialist' too. I usually ask them if they know what it means. They never do, or they think it's a form of communism.

I remember having a debate with my dad last election. He said that he could never sleep at night if he voted for a wimp like Dion, and that global warming isn't real and taking action against it would drive our economy into the ground. He also said supporting science and education was a waste of money because scientists waste money on frivolous things. Silly academics like me don't know how things work in the real world...!

He said that Layton actually had some muscle, but he said he could never support such crazy socialist ideas.

I died inside on that night. He actually deserved a good punch after some of those comments.

I schooled him pretty hard afterwards. He actually budged a bit on many of the issues and took back some of his comments, though still voted conservative.

Some people, I'm telling you.

Well it just so happens that my grandmother's sister's son (so my second cousin?) works with an oil company in some respect. That in itself is enough to label her as a Harper follower.

Funny enough when she first told my grandmother not to vote for "that socialist" my grandmother wasn't entirely sure if she was referencing Layton. XD

I'm not expecting then to fund every single project, but i'm telling you why power is stupidly expensive here and it's something that should have been fixed 10 years ago

I predict a lot of people will vote for the Bloc at the next election, even with it's recent defeat.

Look at this map (click on "vue géographique")

http://elections.radio-canada.ca/ele...ts/index.shtml

Look at the divergence of ideologies between Québec and west Canada. We all had high hopes that something could change. Separatism was pretty much dead but I believe with this election's results, it will quickly grow in popularity.

I was being optimistic when BQ pretty much died out in Québec itself, but it's all up to the NDP's performance now. I hope the separatist mentality doesn't come back honestly. It's affecting everyone at this point.

It's a real east/west ideology.
