MMORPGs and FPS's like maplestory and combat arms you can change your name, now they have to do a server maintenance for it. Maybe thats why.

Suggestion: Get atleast 30+ people to get name changes for X amount of credits and then do a server maintanence??

Having an horribad keyboard helped.
Having to deal with lag for 4+ years helped.
Doing multiple tournaments helped.
Playing tons of MP games for fun helped.
Having temporary rivals helped.
Being done with every other games I played before helped.
Trying to get Oni forever and failing helped. (Oh wait- I have it now with 25 FMOs yey..)
Not playing a lot of Stepmania(it's unplayable) and offline engines helped. (more time for FFR)
Still playing for fun and still slowly improving..

In order to make mass username changing possible, we'd probably have to purge friends lists completely since they're stored by username.....and other random things as well.

It's one of the big reasons. There are a SHITLOAD (thousands) of entries of your username in the database. They should have thought ahead and never used username for storing anything. Userid is the way to go and would make changing usernames take less than a minute.

We can change your username, but almost nothing else outside the forums would be linked to it. It would be just like making a new account...only broken.
