Well said.
Not much can stop the rate people will share information with each other, no reason music shouldn't be part of that information.

Also, for context of how ridiculous this number is, the world GDP is the total value of all final goods and services produced anywhere in the world for a year. And they're asking more than that.

Re: Limewire sued for $25Trillion
I don't agree with pirating music/software (although I do it myself all the time), Limewire really isn't in the wrong here IMO. Limewire is just an application to share any data from any PC. Just because people use it in illegal ways doesn't mean the software developer has to be held reliable. It's like if somebody sued the developer of a port scanning application because somebody used it for the illegal purpose of hacking.

Re: Limewire sued for $25Trillion
I'd like to add that the notion of downloading songs was unprecedented and unexpected from the music industry - it evolved along with the internet. More importantly, you cannot accurately quantify the amount of "damage" done to the music industry since the advent of music downloading. How someone even attempted to quantify an actual value is beyond me. It could be next to guessing. It's really pointless. "I want it all" is what the music industry's saying...and that sends a different message than simply "help pay for my losses." It really says "I'm greedy."

Re: Limewire sued for $25Trillion
they also can't account for those people who downloaded an album first and decided to purchase it later. since it's unlikely these people would otherwise buy an album twice, the music industry itself suffered no losses.
also, $75 trillion? i mean we've all seen some fairly ludicrous lawsuits before but god damn. it's hard to come up with anyone who deserves that money less, and easier to think of many who deserve it more, were it even possible to come by. |

LimeWire probably deserves to be sued for 75 trillion for being such a preposterously shitty piece of software
