Pretty interesting shot there, and that's cool you used to live there too. I'd have to double check which dialect/district we learned about/from, but all the German teachers from my middle -> high school were consistent.

One thing that irked me in high school though; there were other teachers in the county that said that certain dialects were wrong...bugged the crap out of me. A different dialect shouldn't be considered incorrect or wrong when learning. They all need to be addressed because they are all apart of the German language in their own way.

EDIT: Sad that Dutch is dwindling. I knew a Dutch lady where I used to work and I'd overhear her talking to her daughter in Dutch, I thought it was awesome.
