just asking for reviews on my files specifically. if you don't want to get the pack then just get them off of FFR since I uploaded them a few days ago. |

I'm wondering which is better. Technicality, or fun?

fun. as long as your file is accurate and not a dump. technicality is just to make it look fancy
also xoon 4 has 100 files hehu |

as stargroup has probably coined at one point, 'expressiveness' is the ideal goal; how well your chart evokes the idea of the song. if you aim only to be technical or only to be fun you're missing the point

the best files are the ones that find an ideal balance between feeling technically right and feeling like you're playing the song.

It's like Monst3rjoe's sims. Although it's both "technical" and "fun", you could "feel" how he wants his sims to be.

Tss, didn't know of this thread, would someone try some of my simfiles and tell me whether they need improvement? I'm new to stepping
![]() Rushjet1 - Out of Reach Godspeed - Crimson Flood Yngwie Malmsteen - Baroque and Roll Sonic 8-Bit I don't feel like posting some of my dump files (But try them if you want, they're in the simfile database and one on the bottom of my sig)

Well, I don't know much about making simfiles, but I tried your Malmsteen song and enjoyed playing it. It seems well-synced, technically alright and fun. However, patterns tended to be somewhat generic and repetitive. Especially the repeated 6824 16ths were a bit bland, tbh. Maybe the song itself doesn;t provide much material for cool layering or funky patterns, but I missed something. You're definitely on the right way though. I'll test some more of your files.

h-hello, i need some people to test my first simfile because i don't know if i got the bpms right and stuff
('tis a zip file...) http://www.mediafire.com/?zzmzzdmthmg i'm a noob so go easy ok? this is my first one after all, and it has no graphics or whatever yet... ^^ also it's only the...like...first 40 seconds of the song, and in addition the end (which I really haven't finished putting the notes in the right places), it's rather messy if i say so myself but hopefully it's playable (playable enough...) |
