Them arrows.

Well, they first would have to fix the code so it won't be easily exploitable anymore.

There is no way to beat the gambling hall
You can only hope that variance carries you as high as you're willing before you cash out |

Guys, the gambling hall is presumed dead due to an extended absence. Nothing more can be done.

tofu: Again, it's about variance. Either that or you exploited the system (which you did IIRC). If you have a probabalistic-based approach, do share (you don't because there's no way to beat the gambling hall for the long haul). Alternatively, some people just get lucky.
One somewhat good strategy (which is **** for long term) is the martingale, where you basically just keep betting higher to cover the sum of all previous losses. Of course, this results in a fairly slow accumulation of wealth, which can all be taken away from one bad streak. The ones who earn a lot from the gambling hall tend to be the ones who bet heavy and simply get lucky. Also considering the fact that 2% of each transaction gets destroyed, everyone loses in the long run because there's no net gain in the system. Can only hope to be one of the intermediary channels of wealth that acquired a redistribution from some other poor saps as a result of favorable variance in betting heavy. PS: Also don't bother retaliating with anything resembling Gambler's Fallacy, as it's a fallacy. Independent probabalistic events have no memory of the past. Even if you get 5 flips in a row by betting low, betting heavy because you feel like you're on a roll is a bad strategy because your chances are still 50/50. I tried to gain 1% of my total credits everyday, and stopped when I lost 10%.
Though this method doesn't do **** with long-run net gain, which is zero, it slowed down the decrease rate of credits, and I was able to cover that amount by winning tournaments. But then again I'd be better off just participating in tourneys without gambling. Still, gambling is fun =P Last edited by leonid; 09-26-2009 at 07:09 AM.. |

Yeah you can gain small amounts relatively safely, but things become a bit more apparent when you start betting with sums that are a greater percentage of your credit-worth. You see that even if you gain a little, at some point you're going to get unlucky and lose it all.
"The only winning move is not to play" :P There is a reason why the Gambling Hall was put there in the first place. It was to essentially increase the worth of credits by making them more scarce, lmao. I also like it because it teaches people the pitfalls of gambling without having to actually waste money. |

I'd suggest instead of having boring coin toss crap, gambling hall should provide a game for which the chance of winning differs based on each person's skill.
I'd say Texas Hold'em =P |

Yeah, something skill-based would be nice. Although I want my tourney credits so I can start a tournament of my own -- something that is very skill-based in terms of mental challenge. Unfortunately, I don't know how many people would be interested.
On my Omnipwn tournaments, only a few people were really into the mental **** (Tass, Fractal Monkey, Emerald, Devonin, etc), but eh, if there's interest. I miss the first Omnipwn... it was what introduced myself/Tass to Kongregate and sparked the Flash gaming thing. A lot of cool, unknown games at the time, fun competition, fun mental challenges, etc. |
