Also isn't there an operation that you can take to allow you to hear, have you ever thought about it? Last edited by ~Zero~; 08-27-2009 at 09:14 PM.. |

I would never do it, because the sound that you hear is not true sound. It is said to be very robotic seeming, and I have heard nothing but negative things about it. |

I'm wondering something... How do you think ? I personnaly think with sounds most of the times (as well as everyone else, I think) but since, you never experienced sound, how do you think ? The most logical answer to me would be words and feelings but I'm not certain. Sorry if the question is a little difficult ^_^
Also, I think that since you have never experienced sound, you had a great deal of time to be with yourself and think about things other people wouldn't because they are distracted by sounds. Am I right ? |

I wouldn't know either way, considering I can't read other people's thoughts. |

I'm enjoying how many people are asking questions that are requring eMVy to put internal concepts into terms for which he has no frame of reference. I mean, we have no particular way to prove that two people who, for example, can both see are actually seeing the same objective colour when they look at something "red" (By which I mean, if you could see out my eyes, what actual -shade- I'm seeing might be what you call "green" when you see that shade) and here we are trying to ask him"how he thinks" like any of us could explain in a way that made sense to others.

Devonin, man, that is one huge sentence. You also opened a parenthesis and never closed it. I know exactly what you're talking about though.
Also, eMVy, welcome to FFR (if that hasn't been said enough already). I've never seen anyone on FFR receive such a welcome here! Congrats on proving this forum has a heart, haha. |

Obviously what we need to do is come up with a technique that stimulates the neurons in exactly the same ways experiencing sound would.

I recently went to a hearing institute for a routine check up, and the doctor told me about a study they are doing to see if they can grow the hairs that are stimulated by the sound wave to cause sound to the ear drum... So we will see how all that goes, I have signed up to be a human test for the experiment, so when the time comes I am going to take the risk. |

As KotHN said, I don't think anyone has gotten such a welcoming like this.
Sorry if I'm a bit nosey, but how old are you? I'm very curious since you can make music, having this intelligence level, and even be allowed to be a test subject for something to help bring the sense of hearing to a deaf person. I REALLY want to hear your music, ESPECIALLY since it's classical. =) |

I couldn't begin to imagine how great an experiment could turn out if successful, how it would be to be able to hear the music you've composed for the first time.
ohbtw, best newbie 2009? I think so. |
