Don't complain, bender. This kid set his mind and soul to achieve a goal. Why don't you do the same instead of letting jealousy poison your mind?
You can't just simply "try hard" and suddenly graduate at 11 years of age.

Hell, I try hard to keep up my high honor roll but it gets destroyed entirely cause of one teacher who thinks he's funny.

People that say doing homework will get you good grades in classes. Guess what, that's utter ****. Other kids in your class can not do homework but 100% the tests and still get a B while you do homework and struggle to pass the tests.

See where I'm getting at here? Working HARD does not make you graduate at half the age of a usual person. This kid is just trying to hide his actual path.

Your point??

I was just stating that this kids statement versus why he wouldn't "waste his time" playing games is arguable. Id rather challenge myself wasting countless hours on a game trying to complete the games tasks to the fullest than sit in class and perform calculus problems Einstein couldn't even imagine.

Games are for entertainment, and for some, a nice challenge and sometimes a bit of competition. But a 11 year-old graduate is far too ignorant to realize that.

I bet he'd also want to gain all that intelligence to try outsmarting people on the internet

In my opinion everyone is different but taking large chunks of time studying materials you don't even need to know yet is just nonsensical as it removes social time as well. Online gaming that "wastes time" is also another method of communicating with friends. He must be a loner.

I was slightly disagreeing with your statement that the kid isn't a genius. I believe that you have to have some natural talent if you are to achieve what the kid did.

I actually agree that the kid not playing any games is a bit absurd, everyone needs to take a break and have fun once in a while.

It doesn't take graduating college to outsmart people on the internet, it just takes a bit of knowledge in what you are discussing and bit of ignorance. For example, I argue with Zero a lot in person, but even if I'm right, he will make himself seem more superior through twisting words and such. Nothing more than a little extra than common sense.

Also, your right, i don't think anyone will ever ask me "hey can you solve this polynomial for me" (excluding some smartass). And yes, very lonely not to touch a game at that age, his friends are his books and the clothes he wears.

He has a pokemon game in his backpack, were just stupid to find it because he is such a genius and placed it in a vortex through the outer portion of his pocket that only he can reach.

Can someone clue me in to how someone of his age can even get a degree from a university? How the **** did he get admitted with only 5th grade under his belt?

?__?

Why did I have to go through highschool if I could've gone to a university at the age of 11?

I've been wondering that to. My guess is lots of expensive private school who feeds you credit hours in short periods of time. Doesn't really seem fair. If i could have skipped all that busy work at those public highschools and focuses on actually learning I bet I would have done really good to.

At least I got to be a kid and he didnt.

I guess not, but I was recognized as a gifted (not retarded you fags) child by the time I reached 2nd grade. They knew I was smarter than all the little pukes I played with at recess. My state test scores were all in the upper 90th percentiles in every category by the time I got to 5th grade and I still didn't get to go to a university.

EDIT: Ah yeah...private school. ****. I went to public school.

Lol those "gifted" recognization things are pretty much a joke. I was in the GATE program, where you have to get 98th percentile on this math and reading test in 2nd grade, and I didn't do jack besides some random field trips lmao.

Tell me...what exactly substantiates a necessity for certain knowledge as it relates to time (or in this specific context, age)?

nice try dosslarx

I would agree (to an extent) with the adage "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," but I don't think we can quite safely assume that the kid's eschewal of video games indicates that he has completely forbade himself from having fun. Instead, the article and video suggest that he finds enjoyment in other activities (e.g. martial arts, scuba diving, etc.) that are merely more productive than video games. Furthermore, to say that he has consequently missed out on leisure and social interaction would be to risk implying that video games are the only suitable channel for such experiences. Thus, though there isn't anything inherently wrong with playing video games (and in fact there are quite a few indirect benefits of doing so), he feels that his time could be better spent on more worthwhile pursuits, and in a way, his talent has placed somewhat of an obligation on him (whether or not he is aware of it) to adopt such a mindset. Cut the kid some slack...

The only thing that they offered me was the chance to skip a grade but my parents declined on my behalf.

he's a ****ing martial arts champion he has a life

They say he started college when he was 8 years old. This makes me think that he took all of the required standardized tests and stuff to get through all the years of school and skipped all the social aspects of the schooling. Normally, I would say that's negative, but since he does have a life outside of his schoolwork I can't criticize him. I have a friend who teaches kids martial arts and many of her lifelong friends came out of those experiences so I assume he's getting the social networking any of us would get from school, which is really just a glorified day care for working families.*

*I'm not saying that the educational aspects of school are unimportant, I'm just saying that the stay here for seven hours a day part has nothing to do with actually learning material. It's more about learning how to interact and learning how to learn, which are very important skills but really don't have anything to do with educating the kids.

o fuc, he's asian AND jewish you guys

But seriously, while I am very impressed at his ability to get through his education that quickly, I don't think it's very useful. I mean, first, while it's definitely wrong to say this guy has no life, I can't see him establishing much rapport with people of his own age for perhaps another decade or so. There are a lot of things he'd be missing out on that he might very well regret later. Also, because he's so young, I think it might be difficult to start a career at that age, because of child labor laws and age discrimination. Second, while he may be a college grad, it WAS a community college, so if he wants to have a good career he will undoubtedly have to go through at least graduate school (that is, he's not done with education just yet). Third, isn't the focus of education supposed to be to teach you stuff and help you grow as a person? He might have enough credits to graduate from college, but he still has a lot of personal, mental, and emotional growth left to go through, and I think it's going to be a tough road without a support system (i.e. school and many friends) to help him through it.

Same. I for one was definitely smart enough to get into *a* college well before I actually graduated high school. If there wasn't so much work to do in school I probably could have gone quite a bit faster than I did... but I'm happy I didn't, because I think I have a much better social life than I would have if I'd skipped several grades.
