Memorial Day

I know that this is an American holiday, but more than just American lives have been lost in past wars. And I know it's supposed to be for WWI and the civil war. w/e I'm surprised no one made a thread about this, but.

My father has awards for navy service, my grandfather has 3 purple hearts from vietnam, my great uncle has awards for military service during vietnam. My great grandfather died in the second world war. My great great grandmother was a nurse during world war II, and was in two separate bombings.

My mother's grandfather's side fought in the civil war, and a lot of them were badly injured. Well, this is to you guys.

If anyone has things to say on behalf of family in the service, or about the day in general, this is the place.

No offense but this holiday isn't as exciting as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and other holidays.

Frankly, no one gives a fudge cake about Memorial Day.

The only good part about it is that theres no school on that holiday. Thats about it?

I mean, unless you're counting Veterans, active duty soldiers, family of soldiers, family of veterans, and anyone who cares about their liberty and country in your count of "no one".

Because that count is most likely going to constitute the vast majority of our country.

I think the people that don't put too much thought into Memorial Day are people that just don't have any personal connection to war. I have a few friends from high school that went into the military but that's about it. I barely see my grandparents and they don't discuss any of that with me. I mean, I respect this day for remembrance but because I don't have any strong ties to people that died, are fighting, or fought in war, it just doesn't resonate as much with me *shrugs*

I participated in a parade march today, and there was a long speech about Memorial Day.

While I do honor the people that work in the military, I still can't put away the fact that there is still killing happening around the world.

Over 6 billion people in the world that can't get along. Makes me have hundreds of opinions from different perspectives.
